The ltopblican vot ters of Oregon who have remained in very large numbers quite unde cided whom to vote for for govern-1 or must come to an early decision. They have had rather an unusual opportunity in recent months to see and lo hear the various aspir ants for the honor. The Statesman feels that several of the six candi dates would fill the office with honor to themselves and credit to the state. Like the Individual voter, we have been observing the candidates in action, scrutinizing their records , and, studying their' pioposals; and have come to our selection. The choice which the Statesman makes Is Harry L. Cor bett. That which has determined our selection and recommendation to the Republican voters of the stale is a factor which we have not seen touched on in the political discus sions thus far. It is the element of i CONFIDENCE. We profess to find in Mr. Corbett a dependability' which Rives us assurance as to what he will and what he will not do, which inspires us with confi dence: and that Is a quality In a candidate that Is of supreme value. Put it thus: Corbett Commands Confidence. With Mr. Corbett as governor the voters may have confidence that the business affairs of the state will be completely and hon cstlv handled; that appointments to offlco will not be chiefly a po litical matter. They may have con fidence that Mr. Corhrtt is suffi ciently acquainted with the machin ery of government and the work ings of politics, and sufficiently In dependent In his judgments and , ! They niav have confidence (hat Mr. Cor bett has a wide and Intimate knowl edge of the resources and prob lems of the state, and a broad ac quaintance among the people In all sections. They may have confi dence that Mr. Corbett will llll his olficc with dignity, with clean lie portment, nnd without snobbery We are not here discounting the tnlents of the other candidates.
