Attention Mr. Owney "St. Patrick" Patten. 1 My Dear Owney: Here we are in the land of the Sunny South, ten thousand, miles, piore or less (and it seems more) from God's country, the Rogue River valley, landed here on the morning of August 8th, having left dear old Medford on the evening of July 2nd, San Francisco on the night of the 17th, and sailed from New York on the morning of the, li 7th. Had a wonderful trip and are enjoying ourselves immensely, although we are not yet confirmed In the Idea of living here forever. You know, when a fellow gets a long way off, he surely appreciates more than ever his old "stamping ground" an., real friends. Have had very fine, modernto weather ever since we arrived, a few hot days and occasional show e rs, but Old Ma n Su m m e r t i m e if now approaching. You know the hot period in this country is from the , middle of November to the middle of March just opposite to the United States. Suppose the mornings and evenings in Medford are rather crimpy bv this time, and the bowling enthusiasts are in full swing, all trying to grab off the famous "jackpots." Haven't seen a bowling ball since I left Medford. and it surely makes me wish I could "tangle" with the PROGRAM DEC- V. PHOENIX, Ore., Dec. 17 (Spl.) A very Interesting Christmas pro gram is being planned by the pro gram committee to be given at the church next Sunday evening, De cember 22. Three appropriate short plays are to be given: "No Room at the Inn," "The Wonderful Name" and "The Starlight Time." The casts of the plays are principally mude up of the children of the Sunday school. Recitations and songs will fill the Intervals between plays. The choir Is practicing some beautiful Christmas songs to be given in connection with this program. Didn't experience much dlffcitlty In learning how to make my wants known in the stores. This is the worklngest gang I have .ever encountered. Hardly have time to eat "three squares" bi day. We are both mighty glad to get the home town news, so be sure to keep the Tribune coming, and let me k n o w when I owe you more money. The native papers here mean very little to us as yet, and believe me, the Tribune surely is welcome. Sometimes we receive five or six issues in one mail, tie pending on the boat sailings, thou we have a reader's feast. EDEN PRECINCT, Ore., Dec. 1 7. (Special.) Ed Hamlin has purchase the beautiful home of Mrs. Let a Furry on the highway south of Phoenix. This Is one of the most desirable homes along the highway between Medford and Ashland. It consists of about 60 acres lying east of the highway, part of which is across Bear creek. The large two story house has nine rooms and porches all. the way round, modern plumbing and large basement cellar. There is a fine drilled well, spacious lawn and fine shade and flowering vines and trees. Mr.. Hamlin purchased a large tract of the land three years ngo. The high school and the grade school will close for the Christmas vacation Friday, the 20th, and will take up again on the 2nd of Janu ary. The senior class rings have ar rived and all the seniors are very proud of their choice In selection. A student body meeting was held Friday, the i:ith, at which the students voted to have a Christmas tree this year as has been the prac tice for the past several years.
