Hohm A matter of the greatest Impor tance, and yet a matter which we continually Ignore, demandu at tention at thin time. Hpend the money where i( orrlginatea, In sound policy. The world Ih now living out of 'a can. Helleve tt or not, a visit to your nearewt grocery store will be convincing. Peas a nd beans from Jo wa ; "punklns" from Indiuna; pineap ple from Honolulu; tomatoes and pork and beans from everywhere. The nationally advertised stuff In the forefront, and local produc tions you have to hunt for. ftat that isn't the point. The processing and tins represent 60 per cent of the wholesale values. Before the consumer gets a go at It, thu freight and two middle men's profits have to be added to the cost. Jt would look like no tariff would be needed by the local catiiinry for protection, but the cahnery man faces problems un dreamed of by the laity. The huge Investment necessary to mnke a cannery function is only the be ginning. The business Is always facing a labor shortage, a short season, and shortage of tho raw material. Usually the trade places Its orders early In the season, and the cannery man rnuHt know that he" can depend on the raw mate rial before he can accept tho or ders. Here In the Rogue River valley we have available, the products which will enable the right man to have the longest possible operat ing season, ranging from Ken tucky Wonder beans and dark red Detroit beets through seasonal cherries, pears, apricots, peaches, tomatoes and they rank us tho best produced on tho coast and with a windup winter project of canned Vellow Newtown apples, the one apple which will stand up In the can without getting muuhy. The recent development of the "little-lander" sub-divisions In the valley not only make It possible to bring about the production of the necessary raw materials, but also helps vastly In the solution of the labor problem. Of course it will be necessary to have schools of instruction In Irrigation and other lines of production, to have long-term contracts with pro fiteers nnd to have general super vision of production to guarantee quality, and to properly finance the wholo .proposition. It is certainly galling to a man who has the Interest of this val ley at heart to listen to the state ments of men who return from casual visits to Wllllamette val ley cannery towns and report, ns happened only last year, that tho visitor had Seen 3000 Marlon county Women busy Pooling Mod ford hears, when It means bo much itt ttiir own citizens to have the help 'of this processing in procur ing ' food and clothing, securing shoes and school books for the children and otherwise lessening the grief of living through the winter season. Often, nights ' valley and gateway to Crater Lake CHRYSLER EASE The over Increasing popularity of Chrysler cars with women Is due directly to tho foresight of the Chrysler Corporation's engineers, who havo pioneered so many of the most Important Innovations In modern automobile design and 1 construction, according to Mr. 1 Henry, local dealer. "In creating tho Chrysler '05', 'Yfe' and Imperial, Chrysler engi neers made, exhaustive studies of the long expressed desires of worn en, fur. cars of dashing line and luxurious appointment entirely freo from those mechanical an noyances which had long been the hsne of 'driver of tho fair sex. Their findings resulted in many features being Incorporated In Chrysler curs which niako thorn so appealing to women. "Attention to detnll In body de sign, color combinations, uphol stering and Interior appointments has given th Chrysler ears a style , and dash of their own that has completely won the women motor ists. ' i 1 "New engineering achievements havo gained ftir the Chrysler cars an ever growing army of women owners nnd drivers, exultant itt finally being able to drive them selves, In complete comfort with a new pen re of mind because of these features, which permit of effortless control at all speeds and under any traffio condition. "Women were quick to Jenrn that the flexibility of the Chrysler high compression motor, the eas ily controlled steering gear and four Vrhefl hydraulic Internal ex panding brakes that always opor ato positively with the slightest pressue. "Women find, that Chrysler cars, because of this combination of style and comfort, with perfec tion In mechanical detail nnd op eration reflect feminine prefer ences and litolerlng needs In every respect." 4 . . ..
