Applegate, and he in turn was followed by A. Ilclman. The flag was presented to Aden Spencer at the death of Mr. llelman, as he whh the only living member of the original company. A second flag of unusual Inter est was one that was entirely hand made by early pioneer women, 'Mrs. fieorge t-ano und Mrs. j .laquett, and was raised In Alir land on the Fourth of July, 183. Miss Ady returns to Ashland In about three weeks to resume her work at tho Southern Oregon Normal school, where she is head of the art department. Miss Ady has had a leave of ob- iScnee for the past 'Tear, while she attended Columbia college for ad vanced work in her line. Shrine picnic which will be held on Sunday, July 21st, at Oak drove park near RoseburK. This annual event Is always largely at tended by Suriners from through out Southern Oregon and Northern California. ' In making ut the program tills . year greater aMeution has been paid to the various entertainment features. A greater range of utli 'iftio ovents in addition to the tra ditfohal baseball clash have ben i arranged and some well know local Khriners have already gone into secret training for the vari ous running. Jumping and hurdle events. The prizes and honors awarded in iat picnics have al ways aroused considerable com petition and this year's program promises to be even more keenly contested. The fat men's race, which last year developed a num ber, of dark horses and which re quired two special heats to decide the winner, is already arousing speculation as to the merits of the various entrants. As the picnic is earth year one of the largest gatherings of its kind attendance is limited to Shriners and thoir families. Mem bers of other temples visiting In Southern Oregon or Northern Cal ifornia are also eligible to attend this feature event of the summer soaBon. Shriners - attending are asked to bring their own lunches but coffee, cold drinks nd ice cream will be furnished by Hlllah temple.
