The law declares towns of fiOO population and under fall directly under the jurisdiction of the sher iff and county court In the issu ance of dance licenses. However, In places of more population, the right to issue licenses Is vested with the city government Itself, Luke Kincaid, proprietor of the Cold Hill pavilion, declares the town has ?2D bona fide residents. However, the claim Is regarded as inaccurate by the sheriff's office, which contends the Uii.'0 United States government census supplies the only true record of population. If the latter claim is sustained in court, Ootd Hill will have a population of only a few more than 4yu, taking away he power from the city to regulate Its dances. It Is likely tonight's dance will he visited by officers and it Is possible the proprietor may be arrested either tonight or next week to test the strength of Ihe law nnd to determine (loll Hill's accurate population?
