"Hankow occupies the north
bank of the Yangtze where the
Han pours its muddy torrent. On
the oposlte side of the Han lies
Hanyang, and across the mile-wide
Yangtze, Wuchang, the latter a
venerable ' town which was
nourishing when Hankow was a
fishing hamlet. Both Hanyang
and Wuchang now are a part of
'greater Hankow' with more than
1,500,000 Inhabitants.

amazing conglomeration of ship
ping. There aro ungainly Junks,
but they move about the water in
the hands of export rivermen as
easily as modern vessels in our

the strength of their vocal cords.

The Reo Motor Car company re
ports that shipments (or the month
of April set a new, record for that
month. i' Total shipments, accord
ing: to Richard II. Scott, president
and general manager of the com
pany, were .6716, almost-equally
divided between ploasure cars and
Speed Wagons. These totals, ac
cording to Mr. Scott's statement,
compare with 4tll vehicles In
March of this year, and with G217
In April of last year.
"Our shlpmnnts for the calendar
year to date," states Mr. Scott,
"are running aliovfl 20 per cent
nJtead of the shipments for the cor
responding year a year ago, which',
it will be recalled, was our biggest
year. The rate at which retail de
liveries are being reported, the
condition of dealer stocks through
out the" country, and .the number
of unfilled orders with which we
entered the month of May. seem
to assure a continuation of the very
satisfactory business we have been
enjoying."

nominational church In suburban
Freemont stands as a momument
to a widow with nine children who
has engineered sufficient projects
to support her whole family.
Mrs. Ada Jones put her child
ren through school by working a
truck furm after her. husband
disappeared In a California dam
disaster 13 years ago. Later she
bought a dairy to increase her
income.
A passenger line of 11 busses Is
her latest accomplishment Five
of her children three- of them
girls drive busses on1 the line in
to Dallas Mrs.-Jones began the
service when she lot one of her
sons haul passengers in an old
truck.
Mrs. Jones set about new tasks
after three sons -and a daughter
married. Freemont had no church,
so she donated a site and. advan
ced money . for building. ' Lost
winter she donated (1,000 more
for a Sunday school. The church
now boasts 238 members of many
creeds.
