(Special) With the passing of Mrs. Harriet Ann Laws last Friday evening Rogue River loses one of Its best known aud beloved pioneer figures. "Grandma" Laws, as she was familiarly known in the com munity,' came to Rogue River, or Woodville as it was then known, in August. 1893, with her husband, from Minnesota Uike, Minn. She waB 81 years of. a!?e at the time of her death and leaves to mourn her Iobs hur aged husband, six children, 32 grandchildren and eight grandchildren, also three bro thers. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Wm. McAfee Wilson in the Rogue River Presbyterian church Monday afternoon. April 29 Joseph Lyman Pierce, a fnmiliar figure In and about Rogue River since 1906, died at the Jose phine hospital following a paralyt ic stroke. Two sinters, Mrs. O. R. Penny and Mrs. 11. L. Kanaston, and a brother, R. A. Pierce, all of the Rogue River valley, survive. Sydney Baker is leaving at the elbse of school to spend the sum mer with his father, C. Bnker, at Klamath Falls. Mr. Hakor, who has a lease on a muskrat farm there, writes that the work is progressing satisfactorily. The high school picnic ; 'ven by the senior class at the close of each year, was held at the Jackson Hot Springs, May S. Tho picnics have been held there for the past four years. The valley was thickly vellod with smudge smoke from tho sur rounding orchards Tuesday morn ing. Mrs. George Fubricus silent the latter part of tho week visiting with relatives in Grants Pass. (Spe cial) To date there has been no rfbsence at the school here on ac count of colds or illness of any kind. Not one case of any conta gious diseuse or even common colds all winter. N. N. Charley returned to his home Tuesday from a two weeks' visit with his daughter in Port land. ' The following were dinner guests at the Wertz home Wednesday: Mrs. A. J. Grissom MrB. O. BEAGLE SCHOOL PTA BEAGLE, Ore.. May 10. (Spe cial) The Antioch P.-T. A. meeting was held last Friday evening. Elec tion of officers for the coming year and a short bimlness meeting was held followed by a short Tnusical program consisting of songs by Hthna and Lois Gray, harmonica solos by Merrill Martin and har monica and guitar music by Claude Mclntyre and Edward Putnam. Twenty-four pies were sold at auc tion, Mr. Copley being the auction eer. During the social hour the pies disappeared as by magic, along with the cocoa 1 served by some of the P.T. A. members. The new officers elected were: President, Mrs. Charles Sanderson; vice-president, Mr. Humpton; sec retary, Miss Anna Swanson; treas urer, Mrs., Riley Mayfield. A vote of thanks was given Mrs. E. 11.
