Mrs. Julia Dnubleday spent Fri day In Medford. Mrs, Fisher re turned with her Frbfay evening and stayed until Saturday. Mrs. Helen Xeff of Medford spent the week-end here with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. O. M. CiOSS, Mtss Helen Slmervllle, who Is a student at the Southern Oregon Normal srhool in Ashland, spent the week-end here visiting rela tives. Her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Friday afternoon four exciting volley ball games were played in the high school gymnasium be tween a team of 12 pupils from the upper grammar grades and a team of 12 high school pupils. The first three games were won by the high school and thu fourth by the grades. Tumbling has been added to the gymnasium work this week and will be given two days a week. Mrs. Mall cot wiil spend a month here. Mrs. Day is leaving this week for Portland, Ore., where she will make her home with her brother. Mrs. Day has been a resident of this community for over twenty ind will be greatly missed many friends here. Mr, and Mrs. Albert Nelson and daughter F.mma, spent Sunday in Medford. Kenneth Moore was another successful huner Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Smith and Karline Murphy camped Saturday and Sunday at Fish lake. The Prospect high school open ed this year with the largest en rollment on record. A largo class of freshmen were admitted. The new Hoo bus, which our school district has purchased for us is very well liked by tho 30 pupils, which it transports to , school. (Special A reception was given on last Friday evening at the high school auditorium to the present teaching staff of the Gold Hill school. The teachers of the re spective grades are as follows: First grade. Miss Alice Harper; second grade. Miss Kthet Hedg peth; third and fourth grades. Mrs. Minnie Sargent; fifth and sixth grades, Miss No iris and sev enth and eighth grades, Mrs. Maude ltobinson. The high school faculty consists of Mr. Meisinger. principal. Mrs. Irving, commercial teacher. Charles Orr. Instructor in mathematics and Miss Orr, Kng lish teacher. Mrs. Fred Puy in structs both the grades and the high school In music. A very pleasing entertainment was given by the music classes. Tho com munity in general w as present and was Introduced to this year's teaching staff. Tho parents of students attending school became acquainted at this time with the teachers. This will Insure better cooperation between the parents and the staff. A very good time was enjoyed by all who attended. Mr. Jack Plcard and Mrs. Vaughn Quakenbush attended the Christian Science lecture given at the Itialto theater at eight o'clock Tuesday evening. The Hi-Way Inn Is now under the management of Mrs. Pert ha Wyatt. formerly of Medford. The place has been repnpered and has been roofed with fireproof metal. Mrs. Wyatt expects to servo the popular chicken dinners as have been served at this place for sev eral months under its former man agement. The high school is organizing an orchestra under the supervision of Mr. Meisinger. The first meeting was held at the high school aud itorium on Monday evening. Sev eral were present with instru ments and the organizing of It was partly completed. Somo of the students who played in the 'orchestra organized there last year and the year before wefo present to join and it seemed that much Interest would be taken by those present toward tho organization of jt Several In tho school are vory talented In music and with a lit tle practice the school could have a very fine orchestra. No defin ite date was set for tho next meet ing but It will be held In the siime place probably the Monday evening of next week. An orches tra Is something that every school ihould try to obtain. With a llt Uihelp, tho Gold HIM school can have as flue a one an any school of Its size in the valley. Kmory Davis returned Tuesday from the Sacred Heart hospital. He Is slowly recovering from an operation of about throe weeks ago. After a deer hunt he was taken sick and was ruhcd to the hospital and operated upon and Is now just beginning to recover from it. Tho Lively lime plant seems to be very busy these days fill ing Its orders for lime as well as lime rock. The kiln Is running full blast and a full day crew Is be ing employed as well as a night crew which was to be put on some lime this week. Several largo or ders were received for lime ho con sequently some means had to be used to fill them. Mr. Lively as a result has employed this night crew. There seems to bo quite a demand over this state and part of California for the famoiiH "Lively" lime. Several cars of the roek are shipped each month and the truck Is kept busy hauling H day and night. This llmo Indus-! try seems to be one of tho rap-! idly growing Industries of south ern Oregon. Not long ljaek only a small plant was used to burn the lime, but since the rapidly growing demand for lime has nec essitated the several additions now on tho plant together with the, new night crew being employed. A large warehouse Is needed In which ;o keep the barrels for the lime! and tools for the kiln. j A. It. Comer returned last week from his trip to Klamath Falls.
