L DISPLAY AT FAIR OF I One of tho RTouteat Improve ments In the fair this year la the extensive display of Hthool chil dren'B work exhibited in the new educational building just completed thin fall. Included in the school division, which occupies a portion of the up per mory in the building as well as a majority of the first floor, are the following schools: Jackson ville, Talent, Gold Hill, Talent, Lin coln, Jackson, Roosevot, Washing ton, Lake Creek, Tablo Rock, Bell view, (ireenprlnB, Reese Creek, Upper Trail, Oak Grove, Shalehurst, Trail, Pinehurst, Derby, Griffin Creek, Evans Valley, Howard, Mt. Pitt, Neil Creek, Alderbrook, Lone Pine, Butte Palls, Willow Springs, Sams Valley, Rogue River, Eagle Point," West . Side, Independence, Foots Creek. Humane Society ' '. o " On the upper floor one finds the Hnmane society's department which includes several: points of special interest. A.safety carriage for dogs which can be locked onto the run ning board of a car is a decided Improvement over the dangerous practice of risking a pet's life by carrying him on the side of the . car with no means of protection. The dog looks through bars on the side facing traffic and the box is large enough for him to stand up and rest. Mrs. Sidney Richardson and Mrs. IL D. McCaskey are in charge of this exhibit and they are kept busy explaining the good ' points- of the dog cage and an im proved box trap for catching game. The Herman Bleck humane trap attracted much attention among the hunting fans who visited the building yesterday and today. A model sanitary dog kennel Is also shown. On the walls are 20 posters made by school children in differ ent parta of. the United States which were eritered in a contest for moBt effective posters illustrating the importance- of kindness to dumb animals and 'other sulijects. An effort will be made to interest the Modford schools in competing in a contest this year. Health Unit All the latest literature on aches and pains, causes for and ways of preventing them; a stretcher for carrying wounded persons, and all tho atmosphere of the medical pro fession Is found in tho health unit booth in tho education building. A series of cartoons on tlio walls made by Miss Kdith Sweeney and portaylns tho work done by the tf nurses and doctors during the year 8 particularly clever. Junior High Work . Displays of articles made in the handicraft and mnual training classes at the junior high school and the Medford high school aro 1 complete and very good. Furniture lor the drawing room, experiments in making dyes and soap by the boys, and attractive dresses and other wearing apparel, made by the girls. Indicate excellent instruction on th'b part of teachers and appli cation and thought by students. In general the needlework in this di vision may be favorably compared with that done by sewing clubs of the vicinity which are also repre sented in an adjoining booth. FLOWERARRAY IN WOMEN'S BLDG. OF RARE BEAUTY Displays of bountiful ltoRUO It Ivor floweiH with huge dull Has, choice roses and artistically col ored zinnias predominating tho seene form the center of interest nt the women's building at tho fairgrounds. The top-heavy dahlias were evi dently picked as soon us the ruin heRiin Tuesday, for they show no signs of damage. Among tho most outstanding individual exhibits are those of HiirVy Hosier and airs., M. M. Elhart, both of Ashland. Mum of their flowers measure fully u foot across and - in color : range from combinations of light; and dark shades to plain hues j fiom palo nnd yellow and pink; to deep red. j In addition to Mr. Hosier's dahlias he is also showing a large) variety of gladioli featuring sevo-i rul mw specimens.. j A fountain fringed with ferns adds to the effectiveness of tho : flowers which uro artistically ur-; ranged to show good color com- dilutions, in the corner of the hccUoii devoted to art and flowers is a miniuturc lake ' surrounded by fr-rns and other greenery, de- i tilgned by the Lake creek grange. Of special Interest is the Med-i ford Garden club, display of flow-! era and art including a number , iirf rather remarkable landscape j paintings by local artists. Tho i Southern Oregon Normal school i of art Is represented in this di-j vision. Needlework showing the possl-: bilities of just what a woman can lo with creative ability, combined with time nnd the proper mate-1 rials attracts much attention from visitors at the woman's building. Hooked rugs, which aro in vogue at tho present tlmo and are In all eases cheerful and bright, ara among the lovely things on ex hibit. These come In all designs and colors to sut one's taste. (Jullts. like grandmother used tu make and those she never thought of designing, form i large and beautiful part of this show. Basketry, embroidery, ap plique work and all the other va rieties of needlework are well represented and are worthy of at least half an hour of tho visitor's time. Appetizing canned fruits and ypgotft blew, jellies, jams, pickles. j preserves nil the things tho I housewife puts on tho shclvos for' winter use aro Included in the 'department devoted to food. In addition to these, certain articles I a re featured each day. bread and fresh rolls being on display yes-; terday. Cukes were tho specialty for today. Cookies, gingerbread and doughnuts will bo judged Fri day, and on Saturday pies wit be exhibited. Hostesses nt the woman's de partment today are Mrs. O. O. Alenderfer, Mrs. W. F. Qulscn berry. Mrs. Iirry Hchudc and Mrs. H. V. Hamlin. This evening Mrs. Irfe Tuttle. Mrs. K. (. Fowler. Mrs. A. O. Hubbard and Mrs. Karl Coo will be in charge. Miss Jim?
