Humane Society ' '. o
" On the upper floor one finds the
Hnmane society's department which
includes several: points of special
interest. A.safety carriage for dogs
which can be locked onto the run
ning board of a car is a decided
Improvement over the dangerous
practice of risking a pet's life by
carrying him on the side of the
. car with no means of protection.
The dog looks through bars on the
side facing traffic and the box is
large enough for him to stand up
and rest. Mrs. Sidney Richardson
and Mrs. IL D. McCaskey are in
charge of this exhibit and they are
kept busy explaining the good
' points- of the dog cage and an im
proved box trap for catching game.
The Herman Bleck humane trap
attracted much attention among
the hunting fans who visited the
building yesterday and today. A
model sanitary dog kennel Is also
shown. On the walls are 20 posters
made by school children in differ
ent parta of. the United States
which were eritered in a contest for
moBt effective posters illustrating
the importance- of kindness to
dumb animals and 'other sulijects.
An effort will be made to interest
the Modford schools in competing
in a contest this year.
Health Unit
All the latest literature on aches
and pains, causes for and ways of
preventing them; a stretcher for
carrying wounded persons, and all
tho atmosphere of the medical pro
fession Is found in tho health unit
booth in tho education building. A
series of cartoons on tlio walls
made by Miss Kdith Sweeney and
portaylns tho work done by the
tf nurses and doctors during the year
8 particularly clever.
Junior High Work .
Displays of articles made in the
handicraft and mnual training
classes at the junior high school
and the Medford high school aro
1 complete and very good. Furniture
lor the drawing room, experiments
in making dyes and soap by the
boys, and attractive dresses and
other wearing apparel, made by the
girls. Indicate excellent instruction
on th'b part of teachers and appli
cation and thought by students. In
general the needlework in this di
vision may be favorably compared
with that done by sewing clubs of
the vicinity which are also repre
sented in an adjoining booth.

The top-heavy dahlias were evi
dently picked as soon us the ruin

signs of damage. Among tho most
outstanding individual exhibits are
those of HiirVy Hosier and airs.,
M. M. Elhart, both of Ashland.
Mum of their flowers measure

In addition to Mr. Hosier's
dahlias he is also showing a large)

adds to the effectiveness of tho :

ranged to show good color com-
dilutions, in the corner of the
hccUoii devoted to art and flowers
is a miniuturc lake ' surrounded

tilgned by the Lake creek grange.

era and art including a number ,

Needlework showing the possl-:
bilities of just what a woman can
lo with creative ability, combined
with time nnd the proper mate-1
rials attracts much attention from
visitors at the woman's building.
Hooked rugs, which aro in vogue
at tho present tlmo and are In all
eases cheerful and bright, ara
among the lovely things on ex
hibit. These come In all designs
and colors to sut one's taste.
(Jullts. like grandmother used
tu make and those she never
thought of designing, form i
large and beautiful part of this
show. Basketry, embroidery, ap
plique work and all the other va
rieties of needlework are well
represented and are worthy of at
least half an hour of tho visitor's
time.

addition to these, certain articles

for today. Cookies, gingerbread

day, and on Saturday pies wit be
exhibited.
