ANY lODIN No ono who has any Indication of goiter should monkey with lodin in any way, shape or manner. If Kiu-h a person Is to havo any lodin in medicine, food or water, it had better be under tho regular ob servation and di rection of Ijls or her physician. On the other hand, I believe all normal per sons should have a daily iodin ra tion, either in natural food. In drinking water, In suit, or In the form of medicine. How much iodin a normal child or adult requires la still being de bated, though there Is no longer any question that a minute quan tity of lodin is essential for health, and most iuvestigulors agree that In some regions the food and water are ho poor in iodin that some sort of artificial source of an adequate Iodin ration is advisable. Perhaps the growing practice of using iodized salt Instead of or dinary salt for all cooking and table purposes, is one of the most satis factory ways of providing an ade quate lodin ration In region, where the soil is lodin poor, as through the great lakes country. Iodized salt, now marketed by various salt manufacturers, containn apptoxl matcly a grain of lodin in a pound of salt, so that It wouJd be pretty difficult for any one to get too much iodin, no matter how exces sively he may consume salt. Personally, I like to take a nip of plain tincture of iodin and I ltko to spell it briefly, too. You may not like either practice. Suit yourself. The plain old tincture- same stuff wo used to paint on bruises and still swab on fresh wounds as a first old disinfectant Is as efficient, I believe, as any Known lodin compound or preim ration, and although we use iodized salt exclusively at our shanty.
