PXGE TWO DE LUXE MODELS Production has been ordered in creased nn the new line of DeLuxe Oldsmoblles, which were intro duced only two weeks ago. Orders received from dealers when the first of the DeLuxe models were delivered equalled the entire pro duction schedule for the remainder of the year, making; necessary tho production Increase. - The new DeLuxe line, as the name implies, consists of specially designed and finely finished body types on the new Oldsmobile chassis. It supplements the stan dard line of body models which, with the chassis, remain unchang ed. Owing to the large and continu ous demand for the standard Olds mobiles, which has resulted in breaking all previous production &nd sale records this ypar, fac tory officials f;t up a mod cm t schedule for the DeLuxe models. The flood of orders during the past fortnight, however, has caused them to materially revise their plans to accommodate the demand for the DeLuxe line. Dealers report that the DeLuxe body types are meeting the de mands of a new and growing field of Oldsmobile buyers. These are owners of higher priced cars who have tested Oldsmobile perfor mance and wanted a powerful, easily handled car of this type, yet desired the distinctive appearance given by the DeLuxe models. Because of this instantaneous demand for the DeLuxe models, factory officials report that they have been unable as yet to supply all dealers. In fact the majority of the models so far shipped have been sold in the larger, cities -where they had been forwarded for distribution. This condition, however, will be corrected In the near future as production in creases. The DeLuxe line Includes the DeLuxe landau, DeLuxe four-door sedan DeLuxe roadster, DeLuxe sport coupe and DeLuxe phaeton body types. All are equipped for six wire wheels, six tires and tubes, the two spare wheels beins; carried in wells In the two front fenders. Special upholstery, color combinations and fittings, which include spring covers, folding trunk rack and chromium plated head lamps, feature these distinc tive and sportive models. They are mounted on the stan dard Oldsmobile chassis, which was introduced early this year and powered by the high compression six cylinder, 65 horsepower Olds mobile engine. With a wheel-base of 117 inches on the Oakland and 110 inches on the Pontine, they offer riding qualities that make a rough country road ns easy to negotiate as a cement highway. Safpty.too, has bin Incorporat ed in tho Fisher body, with its combination wood and metal con struction, which by test, has been proven to be capable of withstand ing the most severe treatment. The combination of the two has brought about a car In which vi bration Is at a minimum, the wood acting as a muffler to the natural resiliency of the mtal. Retirement from - the democratic national committee of Senator Furniiold McLendel Simmons of North Car olina, for reasons not self ex plained, draws attention to the fact that the Old North State, steeped in traditions that reach back far beyond the revolution ary beginnings of things Ameri can, is represented in the senate by 144 years of accumulated age and more than a half century of unbroken senate experience. 'Th Senator," as North Car olina knows its senior senator, is 74 years of age. as is Senator Lee Slater Overman, always "Sen ator Overman' back home to dis tinguish him from his colleague. Both were born in January, 1S54, and in fact Overman is just sev enteen days the senior in age. Simmons has been 27 consecutive years in tho Senate; Overman twenty-five. Seniority Counts. ! But that little distinction as to ! seniority in the senate means a lot I when translated into North Car : olina politics. Simmons, serious ! minded always, meticulously polite ; in debate, but a hard hitter for ! all that; husky of voice and with .face deep etched and bristly, close Icut hair and mustache bleached by time, has been a commanding figure in political affairs of his I state all these years. And always f also, the short statured, fine drawn "little giant" has bulked large in the Washington life of his party, come political weather fair or foul. He is at his best, perha ps, a nd seasoned by long experience, as director of the minr ority battles day in and day out when government fiscal policy is in the. making. Overman, a wide, portly man of large good nature and genial, fun loving mold, is a more color ful figure to the eye. He was doomed when he entered the senate to see the decades come and go while still he wore that title of "junior senator" which seems hardly in keeping with his snowy hair, worn long to his col lar, and framing a smooth cheek ed, ruddy face that looks out be nignantly on men and affairs save on rare political occasions. But when a senate colleague does break through that calm sereniey of manner, there is a stinging whiplash crack to Overman's tongue, even yet.
