Kxtreme declines in the active issues ranged from one to nearly six points, with only a few Issues showing independent stre n g t h. Trading was unusually small as compared with recent half-holiday sessions, the day's sales aggregat ing only about 630. 000 shares. Pierce Arrow preferred which scored a sharp advance yesterday un reports that merger negotia tions with Studcbnker were n ear ing completion, ran up another seven points today to a new 1928 high at 2'i.
