appropriation for development of
' Pacific coast rivers and harbors.
Another plank of considerable in
herent to the Oregon delegation was
the declaration for enforcement of
the eighteenth amendment. Al
though sponsored by Senator Bo
rah, the plank was regarded b
William F. Woodward of Portland
1 as embodying all the essentials of
his resolution on the subject which
1 he submitted to the platform com

all the Oregon delegates.

group nf Oregon normal school atii
dentH from tho .Monmouth institu
tion, while in Salem yesterday,
nahl that they will reiiueat the
nert Btate legislature to investigate
the school relative to operation and
control exercised by the board of
regents, particularly with reference
to the employing and removal of
instructors. The students made the
announcement after they had con
ferred with Attorney General Van
Winkle as to what could be done
toward nn impartial investieatlon.
The proposed investigation would
involve not only the recent removal
of Professor Thomas H. Oeutle, but
also several other teachers in re
cent years.
The students said their desire
for an Investigation Implied no par
ticular grievance against Miss Jes-
: sica Todd, dean of women, but they
said relntions between faculty and
students are strained.

Vega Monoplane roared down the run
way and zoomed into the air on its
hurtling dash eastward. Piloted hy
Lieutenant R. C MofTatt, well-known

as passengers .Mrs. MofTatt and Sirs.
Helm, the latter secretary to Allen
I-oekhrotl. builder of the plane, the
speeding plane maintained an average
air speed of l'O.i miles per hour.
The flight was made in 23 hours and
