Meyers, a former cir cuit court stenographer, whose faculty for postponing work from day to day finally cost him his Jolt today wa "cftearlnr bJs docket" in a jail cell. The disciplinary nieasura was meted out by J udge Theodore llichter. who discharged the ste nographer and then learned that because of Meyers' negligence, many persons had been deprived of their rights of appeal by not being able to' get transcripts of court records In time. Meyers was summoned to court yesterday and admitted the neg ligence, but protested sentence, saying he did not hco how incar ceration iii tho county jail could help matters any. "I have urranged that all right," Judge Ttlchtor replied. "A type writer, dictaphone and all facili ties have been installed in your cell and you will remain there until you have .cleared up your back work." The work which Meyers will be required to complete before he gains his freedom, is the writing of transcripts of seven court cases, ordered by attorneys before his dismissal, tho total volumo of the work is 1250 pages of legal copy or close to a half million words. Meyers last night estimated tho task will occupy about three weeks. OAKLAND, Cat., May 4.
