This new Holary organization. which was sponsored by the M ford club, is getting away to a fine siaii and is expected to hcentno on 0OI tue most active service clubs in nun leiriiory. A line program has been pre pared for Saturday, including a ban quet and dance at the Ashland Klks' temple, which has Ix-en turned over to Jhe Itotarlans for the occasion. District (iovernor Henry Manny of Seattle will deliver the charter address. President O. W. Moon and Rill Murray of the Ashland Hotarv club were present at today's meeting and extended a cordial Invitation to all locul Rotarians to be present. Earl Hopper was also present and read a message from his father Secretary .Mm Hopper, of the Ash land club, who was unable to at tend the meeting on account of ill liess. President Allen spoke of the "charter night" meetl.ig of the new Albany Rotary club, which will take piace i nursday, March 22, and 1 asked, ror volunteers to accompany him on this trip to represent the Medford Rotarians. Jack Wakefield made a eport on the district con ference which takes place In Se attle next niunth and stated that six local members had already signed up to go. This number will probably be increased as.Medford is anxious to again win the silver cup for the club 'traveling the greatest distance and having the largest number of members present at the conference. This award was won by the Medlord club last year and if won two more years will re main the permanent property of the local Rotarians. Reports from the various stand ing committees were heard at to day's meeting and the "Milk Fund" was greatly enriched by con tributions from those chairmen who were not prepared to make their . reports. Perry Crawford read an inspiring article on the subject of "Membership in Rotary" which was of Interest to all present. j Dr. D. A. Chambers was Intro-1 duced as a new member of Rotary, I Vice-President Frank Newman making the presentation speech. Guests at today's me.Ung in-! eluded Rotarians A. W. Moon and Hill Murray of Ashland, Jas. Hrom ley of lirants Pass, C. Fixott of Portland. Other guests were E. Hopper of Ashland, Frank Patter son, Geo. Xellson and Seth Dullis of Medford. TheM. H. S. basket ball team and Coach Callison, who had been invited to attend were unuble to do so on account of school work. President Allen announced that Chas. Hoover would give a demon stration of his famous winter blue grass at the Hoover ranch tomor row at 2 p. m and urged all Ro tarians to attend. The Medford club is much interested in this new crop and has broadcasted Its pos stuiiiiies throughout the. Jefferson Harding, war veteran and close friend of Presi dent Harding's family, killed him self in hin Fifth avenue office today with the same revolver that his wife used to commit suicide two months ago. Friends of. Major Harding, who was 32 years old, attributed hs suicide to despondency over the ls of his wife, who was believed to have killed herself because of poor health. He was a member of the army reserve corps, an official of the Hotel Continental in Times Square and a widely known real estate man. Major Harding was cited five limes for gallantry during the war by the American army and twice by the French. He waa awarded the Croix de Guerre with palms.
