He, mains of a human skeleton found by school children In an extinct volcano near tho old Hn,tch, Utah, town reser voir site, were brought here by Sheriff Melt Hutch. The bones appear to he those of a white person. Along with tho skeleton were found an old time cap and ball rifle, weighing 20 pounds, a horn filled with powder, about 80 balls, bullet moulds, and a check folder on the ."First State. Ileekman history prizes and medals. The prizes are four In num ber, viz., first, C0; second, $00; third, I0, and fourth, $30; and will be awarded , for the best four original essays, on the above named subject written and submitted by girls or boys over lb years- of age and under 18 years of age, attending any public or private school, ucademy, semnlary, college, university, or other educa tional institution within the state of Oregon. Each of the four prize win ners will also receive a bundsome bronze medal. The conditions governing the com petition are as follows: 1. The essay submitted In compe tition must not exceed 2000 wordB In length. 2. The essay may be In handwrit ing or In typewritten form, preferably upon paper of commercial letter size, either ruled or unruled, the severul sheets being numbered consecutively und .written on one sido only, with blank space of about ono and one- quarter Inches at top and left-hand margins. . , . d.
