Reports of the various committees showed the results' of careful plans having been formulated and prepara tions already under way for this all Important event- A novol advertising scheme will carry the message of .wcutord's celebration far and wide. Among important topics up. for dis cussion was that of the legion golf course which, it would seem, is des tined to enjoy a brilliant future. A canvas of the members for legion buttons was made, each "comrade" whose lapol was not adorned with this emblem being fined forthwith. It Is expected that in the future all mem bers will appear fully "decorated." ' A good showing was made when 30 mom hers paid their 1920 dues in ad vance, In response to an appeal by Paul McDonald of the membership committee to put Medford post "over the top" In an endeavor to lead the slate In this regard. A report by Dr. Kicssb of the child wolfuro committee was heard, as was also, a report on post colors by Seeley Hall. Twb newcomers to Medford were introduced, "Comrade" Stewart and "Comrade" Wellington, the former bt-.ng associated with the Southern Oregon Gas company and the latter holng the new manager of the 20th Century grocery on Central avenue. After a few remarks by Commander Mctilhose regarding the coming elec tion of officers, the post adjourned to tile dining room, where a "feed" was enjoyed, thanks to the efforts of the ladies' auxiliary. . Chime Clock Is Being Installed on Jackson Co. Bank Dr. W. E. Douphty. of Now York, ussoclato general sccretury of Near East Relief, arrived this morning for the Golden Rule dinner to be held at the First Methodist church this even ing, and this noon addressed the Atih land Chamber of Commerce. Medford was able, to secure Dr. W. E. Doughty only because he was en route to Portland for tho State Parent TeacherB convontlon on Wednesday. From Portland he goea to Tacoma, returning to Portland to address one of the large churches on Sunday, lie is a world traveller, a student of pres ent day affairs, , a speaker of most pleasing personality. At the meeting this evening. Dr. Doughty will bo tho chief speaker, and will talk to representatives from all branches of local civic activity. El MUSICAL FEATURE , The many diners in the Hotel Medford dining room were agreeably surprised Sunday evening when charmingly rendered violin solos were given by Prof. V. P. Broschko who recently located in this city from Seattle with the Intention of opening up a studio in the near future So well received was the impromptu concert Sunday evening that the hotel management, with a view to adding to the pleasure of tho general diners, and to especially making out of town guests feel more at home, has arrang ed with Prof. Broschko to play every Sunday evening, with Miss Janice Butler continuing to give delightful piano accompaniments. , ; Jnmes Robinson, local auto me chanic, who forfeited a $25 cash ball last week on a charge of intoxication, was again arrested last night in an inebriated condition at DeVoe's con fectionery by Policeman Leggltt and Officer Prescott, but later escaped while In the custody of Deputy Sheriff Lewis Jennings, who was taking Hob lnson from the city Jail to the county Jail at Jacksonville. Kobinson Is still at large and is armed with a rifle he had procured at his home while escaping. City police are much exerclRod over the fact that Kobinson has threatened to do members of the polico force bodily harm, Joe Cave especially, who arrested him last week. He mado these alleged tllreats both while being -sober and under the -lnflueuce of llaum-.-dui-ing the pam week.. When arrested last night he had In his possession a' bottle of lemon ex tract, one-half of which was consumed. After being in tho city jail a short time, - Kobinson turned on a water faucet, flooding tho entire interior and also soaking his clothes. Police, be lieving Unit to stay in the Jail In such condition would tend to bring on sick ness, turned him over to Deputy Jen nings. In compliance with Robinson's request, Jennings allowed him to go into his homo to chunge clothes while Jennings watched outside, hut instead or returning Robinson left by the buck doro with his rifle, und since has not been seen. Saturday . night Robinson was on the stret intoxicated and would have been arrested at that time had it not been for the earnest pleadings of his wife, who promised to tako him home at once. - ' He formerly operated a repair shop on the corner of Eighth and Front streets, but for some time has not been in active business. He has also been a resident of Medford lor many years past. Workmen today began Installing a beautiful bronze chiino clock on the corner of the Jackson County bank building. This clock which chimes every fifteen minutes has four 30-Inch dials. Is as accurate as human skill can devise and Is a gift of the Jackson County, bank tJ the cltlzons of -Medford. This clock weighs nenrjy a ton, In Illuminated at night and can be seen nnd henrd from anywhere in the downtown section. - The six sacred words, "Lord through tills hour be Thou our guide, so by thy power no foot shall slide," have chanted down through the century, tho original melody being played in the tower of tho famous West Minis ter Abbey and since duplicated wher ever chimes are heard. This public time piece is a permanent expression of a desire on the part of the Jackson County bank to be of unselfish service to the entire community. In telling tho story of time, the clock is fittingly placed on the oldest bank In Medford. In speaking of tho bank's gift to Medford, an official of tho bank said, "it is hoped tho chimes will mean iwmething to all the people, ;that they will have a mesage for the youngstor on his way to school, a thought for the business man and an inspiration for all." . Taylor this forenoon bv State Traffic Officers C. P. Talent and J. J. 11c Mnhon. Hodge, according to tho officers, was truvollng at a rnto of 60 miles per hour when first arrested near Talent nnd ordered to appear in court today. Taking his place at tho end of a long line of cars, all of which wero going tho limit, the officers left and return ing a short time later to tho end they discovered that Hedge was gone. After having followed him somo dis tance the officers overtook him going at a rato of 45 miles an hour, and as a result was naln arrested. This morning when ho plended guilty In court he was fined $0 on the first clinrge and $15 on tho second, with a warning from the court that his drivers' license would be sus pended should his arrest occur again. Others who paid fints were from Ashland nnd Medford. C. J. llrommer of Ashland paid a $15 fine for speed ing and N. Word has been received here, of tho death in Montana of Charles Wil liams, former resident of this plaee. Williams was accidentally killed.
