One of the best locul American
t-eglou meotings In months was held
. last night by the Medford post, with
large attendance and much Interest
displayed in all matters which came
for discussion, particularly the
coming Armistice day celebration.
Reports of the various committees
showed the results' of careful plans
having been formulated and prepara
tions already under way for this all
Important event- A novol advertising
scheme will carry the message of
.wcutord's celebration far and wide.
Among important topics up. for dis
cussion was that of the legion golf
course which, it would seem, is des
tined to enjoy a brilliant future. A
canvas of the members for legion
buttons was made, each "comrade"
whose lapol was not adorned with this
emblem being fined forthwith. It Is
expected that in the future all mem
bers will appear fully "decorated."
' A good showing was made when 30
mom hers paid their 1920 dues in ad
vance, In response to an appeal by
Paul McDonald of the membership
committee to put Medford post "over
the top" In an endeavor to lead the
slate In this regard. A report by Dr.
Kicssb of the child wolfuro committee
was heard, as was also, a report on
post colors by Seeley Hall.
Twb newcomers to Medford were
introduced, "Comrade" Stewart and
"Comrade" Wellington, the former
bt-.ng associated with the Southern
Oregon Gas company and the latter
holng the new manager of the 20th
Century grocery on Central avenue.
After a few remarks by Commander
Mctilhose regarding the coming elec
tion of officers, the post adjourned to
tile dining room, where a "feed" was
enjoyed, thanks to the efforts of the
ladies' auxiliary. .

MUSICAL FEATURE
, The many diners in the Hotel
Medford dining room were agreeably
surprised Sunday evening when
charmingly rendered violin solos were
given by Prof. V. P. Broschko who
recently located in this city from
Seattle with the Intention of opening
up a studio in the near future
So well received was the impromptu
concert Sunday evening that the hotel
management, with a view to adding
to the pleasure of tho general diners,
and to especially making out of town
guests feel more at home, has arrang
ed with Prof. Broschko to play every
Sunday evening, with Miss Janice
Butler continuing to give delightful
piano accompaniments. , ;
Jnmes Robinson, local auto me
chanic, who forfeited a $25 cash ball
last week on a charge of intoxication,
was again arrested last night in an
inebriated condition at DeVoe's con
fectionery by Policeman Leggltt and
Officer Prescott, but later escaped
while In the custody of Deputy Sheriff
Lewis Jennings, who was taking Hob
lnson from the city Jail to the county
Jail at Jacksonville. Kobinson Is still
at large and is armed with a rifle he
had procured at his home while
escaping.
City police are much exerclRod over
the fact that Kobinson has threatened
to do members of the polico force
bodily harm, Joe Cave especially, who
arrested him last week. He mado
these alleged tllreats both while being
-sober and under the -lnflueuce of
llaum-.-dui-ing the pam week..
When arrested last night he had In
his possession a' bottle of lemon ex
tract, one-half of which was consumed.
After being in tho city jail a short
time, - Kobinson turned on a water
faucet, flooding tho entire interior and
also soaking his clothes. Police, be
lieving Unit to stay in the Jail In such
condition would tend to bring on sick
ness, turned him over to Deputy Jen
nings. In compliance with Robinson's
request, Jennings allowed him to go
into his homo to chunge clothes while
Jennings watched outside, hut instead
or returning Robinson left by the buck
doro with his rifle, und since has not
been seen.
Saturday . night Robinson was on
the stret intoxicated and would have
been arrested at that time had it not
been for the earnest pleadings of his
wife, who promised to tako him home
at once. - '
He formerly operated a repair shop
on the corner of Eighth and Front
streets, but for some time has not
been in active business. He has also
been a resident of Medford lor many
years past.
Workmen today began Installing a
beautiful bronze chiino clock on the
corner of the Jackson County bank
building. This clock which chimes
every fifteen minutes has four 30-Inch
dials. Is as accurate as human skill
can devise and Is a gift of the Jackson
County, bank tJ the cltlzons of -Medford.
This clock weighs nenrjy a ton,
In Illuminated at night and can be
seen nnd henrd from anywhere in the
downtown section.
- The six sacred words, "Lord through
tills hour be Thou our guide, so by
thy power no foot shall slide," have
chanted down through the century,
tho original melody being played in
the tower of tho famous West Minis
ter Abbey and since duplicated wher
ever chimes are heard. This public
time piece is a permanent expression
of a desire on the part of the Jackson
County bank to be of unselfish service
to the entire community. In telling
tho story of time, the clock is fittingly
placed on the oldest bank In Medford.
In speaking of tho bank's gift to
Medford, an official of tho bank said,
"it is hoped tho chimes will mean
iwmething to all the people, ;that they
will have a mesage for the youngstor
on his way to school, a thought for
the business man and an inspiration
for all." . '
The clock is a produce of the O. B.
McClintock company of Minneapolis,
exclusive manufacturers .for shlme
clocks for banks, similar clocks havo
been installed for Over 3800. leading
banks throughout the United States.
