MrCam)-, bull and Todd are charged with trans portation of liquor and were arrested in the Klamath-Ashland highway last April. Fred Morey, n 7g-year-old Ktainath county detective, who has featured as n solver of some of the leading crimes of that district In the last two years, was railed as a character wit ness, as was V. C. r.ecKduldt, a rancher. Neither gave any testimony, which caused the court .to inquire why they had been subpoenaed, char acterizing it as "a fraud upon the government." W. P. ' Myers, former district attorney of Klamath county, was also called as a witness. FARNSBROUGK, England. Oct. 15 Hundreds of spectators yesterday watched the second ascension of the helicopter invented' by Don Juan ile LaCierva, which, made Its successful Initial flight on Monday. Captain Courtney took the machine over Laffnn's pluln and covered about ten miles. From the airdrome the helicopter arose to an altitude of more than 1000 feet, then swooped to within one hundred feet of the ground and again Bhot vertically into the nir. It was maneuvered easily and with only the jotary overhead piyipeller working. The machine landed with Its wings flapping as gracefully as a bird. Previous descriptions of the Clerva helicopter or "autogyrro," suid it con sisted of a fuselage with a 130-horse-power engine driving a propeller in the ordinary way. Above the machine on a vertical shaftare four bird-like flapping wings. When revolving at 120 revolutions a minute these exert more than sufficient force to lift the machine. The devolving winds, it is clulmed, will permit the machine to descend safely even with the engine dead. COMMUNICATIONS Sncqd Fiends a Monaco. To the Editor: Will you allow me space In your valuable paper for a few words to cureless enr drivers. Tonight, as I Bit here listening to the moaning of nn eld gentleman 74 years old, I think how much time and suffering might have been avoided If three sensible minutes could have been spared at the right time. I have said "time" first, because invariably an autolst puts time ahove life. Had the driver of the wagon truck that struck Mr. Carey stopped three r'HIS label is our pledge as Author tied Ford Dealers that the used Ford car you buy from us has been reconditioned to insure the maximum ' value for the money you invest in it, C. The man that was In such haste is held in custody for ten days, possibly much longer, to say i nothing about the financial1 part of : the affair. Haste accounts for more than half the accidents. A car driver in mod or j ate speed has two chances to one with the hasty driver. The driver that tries to shoot In be tween other vehicles In order to pass, then meets another car. The driver who butts Into a car ahead that is compelled to stop to save a collision. The man that skids when compelled to apply his brakes and his car turns turtle, or lands In the ditch upside down. These drivers all bemoan speed cops, yet refuse to use, good sense Ihemsulves without being told. MAItY O. CAUHY. Talent, October 15. ' VAUDEVILLE JOB riTTBIU'RO. Oct, 15. (A. P.)
