PORTLAND, Ore., Aug. G. With extremely dry weather and high winds in severul districts, several new forest fires in Oregon uud Washington have broken out and several which fighters had hoped to control several days ago are assuming duugHrous prniwrtions, according to reports received by the control toduy. Three small fires were reported Wednesday near Scappoose. 1 The situation at the two Wind River, Wash., fires and the blaze on Cedar swamp creek in the Mount Hood forest were unchanged. The fire was started hy a spark from an engine on thei logging road. In addition bad fires have broken' out In the Silyer Falls Timber com pany's holdings above Mehaina, having appeared In three different places, ac cording to reports, and none was under control, according to lost ad vices. Just how extensive the damage from these fires Is has not been learned. Officers of the Silver Fall Timber company announce they have under taken the extensive job of trenching around their complete holdings to keep the fires within check If possible. - The logging crews of the company are all still working fighting fires. . WENATCHEE, Wash., Aug. 6 The orchard and home of John Dickie of Peshashtln was destroyed by fire late yesterday, It was reported today. The residence, packing shed and stable and other buildings were burned. The loss Is estimated at $10,000 with about $0500 Insurance. About fifty .20-year-old apnie trees were destroyed. SALEM.
