However modification of this quarantine has been authorized to permit shipments of potatoes from Jackson county, provided they have been inspected before shipment. "Growers should keep this in mind and not endeavor to ship any pota toes into California without inspection as they will undoubtedly be returned: at the expense of the shipper.. Any grower M'ishlng to ship potatoes into the slnto of California should file hint name and address with the county agent's office so thnt inspection can be made and thus prevent loss to the shipper. ' , "On account of tho cherry fruit' maggot, which has made its appear ance in so mo sections in Oregon where cherries arc grown, California placed an absolute quarantine on the entire state, prohibiting the shipment' of cherries to California. But the fact has been established to the satisfac tion of the California authorities that the cherry fruit maggot has not made its appearance in Josephine and. Jackson counties, and the California authorities have modified tho quaran tine so that cherries can now be shipped to California from Josephine and Jackson counties, providing a certificate of inspection accompanies each shipment. "All cherry growers who expect to ship cherries to California should communicate with tho county agent's office, and see that arrangements for inspection are made. Until this pest makes its appearance in these coun ties, shipment will be allowed to go into California under the inspection plan.
