Sev eral of our farmers commenced eut-i ting the first crop of alfalfa this week. The large huy hIiciI on the Dunlupf ranch was Uluwn down during the Btorra of May 19, which, was quite severe but only of a few minutes' duration. The many friends of G. P. Hall In this vicinity were etorry to hear c,t the death of his wife, Mrs. Stacy Hall, at Oakland, Cal on May 4. The Hull family were former residontH yo( this district and have many friends here who deeply sympathize with them at this time. Lam Tuewdny was the closing day of our school and In the evening an achievement day program wan given by members of the Sewing club, which was short and snappy and much en joyed by the large audience prewont. After the program Mrs. Carter, county school superintendent, In her usual pleasing manner gave a short talk on requirements of a standard school, pointing out that MI&h Franks had secured each point required to place the Table Rock school umong the standard schools of tho valloy Mrs. Carter then presented the cer tificate of standardization. Karl Cameron, Jesse Seabrook James Seabrook, Flora Collins, Doro thy NIcewood and Paul Wilson were called to the front, where the audi ence could view them while their teacher stated that these six had neither been tardy or alment during the entire nine months ol school. One of the sHt. Karl Cameron. Is tho. smallest cliliu in school, lives more than a mile and a half from the school house and walks each way. Clifford Webber, who has been em ployed at the Hed Skin orchard the paHt year, Is now working In a saw ' mill at Klamath Falls; Thlnning crews wero started this week In the pears at the Modoc orchard. They had just returned from the Philippine islands, where tho colonel has been stationed for tho paHt two years, and stopped here for a short vtHlt with relatives before taking up his work again ut Omaha, Nob. At a meeting of tho school board last Saturday night, Mrs. Inn Purcell was hired to teach the next term of school. Mrs. Purcell comes highly recommended nnd hog ins well qualitleu aa to schooling and experience. J. L. Ono day last week while Vern Harper wns tuklng his noon nap In. the Chase orchard, he dreamed ho was being attacked by rattlesnakes, and on awakening found the dream to be almost a reality, as not two feet away a small rattlesnake was gazing at him from over Its coiled body, while It played a lullaby with Its rattles. The work of the girls' Sewing clitb which was exhibited at the school houso last Tuesday night nt the close of the program, drew forth many fa vorablo comments nnd was considered by many to be a Utile better than tho nverago club work. The receipts from the Ralo of len cream amounted to somo $20 nnd will bo used to help defray tho expenses of a trip to Corvallls by two of the club members, Jetiso Seabrook and Flora Collins.
