Scott. Commencement exercises were held nave tions. Professor -Oliver gave an ad dress, "A Live Wire Never Gets Stepped On," and brought out some very good points. He advised the young peopte no matter where they wore or what they did to always be honest. Mr. D. Oberteuffer, M. A., of the U. of O., gave the commence ment address, "The Meaning of Com mencement." Those of the class are as follows: William Moore, Thomas Mooney, Cecil nnd Thomas Brooks, Margaret Gray, Lenore Blakely, Ruth Pickett and Hazel Brooks. A large crowd was out to see these young folks graduate and to wish them success in their coming life. The Civic Improvement club met in the community hall Friday after- About 35 members were prcs-I noon. ent. The gathering was a farewell to Rev. Gray, also the teachers who are leaving at the close of the meet ing. 1 A delicious pot-luck lunch was served. .Ir. and Mrs. A. K. Earhart and dutSrhter expect to leave Sunday for Dallas to attend the State Orange, which meets at that place June 2. Mrs. Hazel White and Mrs. Robert GrimmoU left Wednesday for Klam ath to remain during the summer. Born. The last week of school was crowded full of social events for the students. On Friday night, the 15th, the freshman class entertained the sophmore class with a wetner roast on Evans Creek. r Saturday the Sen iors and J uniors spent the day at Jackson Hot Springs. . The night of the 19th was the senior, junior ban quet. Wednesday night, senior night, Thursday night, commencement. On Friday night Mr. and Mrs. Howard Lee gave a farewell party in honor of their nephew, Thomas , Mooney. The evening waa spent in games, music and dancing, and at a late hour refreshments of icecream and cake Veteserved. All present spent a very enjoyable evening and voted Mr, and Mrs. Lee as the befit of entertainers. Everyone felt a lit tle sad at parting with their friend and schoolmate, , but he promised them he would seee them in the fall. Clinton Wiley, who is employed at McCloud, Cal., spent the past week in Rogue River visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James Wiley, also his sister and husband, Mr. and Mrs. Jteed Carter. Mr. D. A number of the school children are employed. Mr.- and Mrs. E. W. Oliver and son are at .Portland this week visit ing. They will return soon and spend the summer at "the Oregon Caves. They were ac companied from here by Miss Annie Miller who goes to visit relatives and also to look for a new location. At Grants Pass the party were joined by Mrs. J. D. Starns, who goes as far as Albany, to visit her -youngest son, Jesse, who has been laid up for the past three months with a broken leg. Mrs. Rose Briggs and family have moved into the house formerly occu pied by U. W. Dusenberry. in order to be closer to their work at the Del Rio orchard, where they are engaged in thinning fruit. ,A1 Kennsler was visited at his bach elor farm here last Sunday by some old frionds fr Klamath Falls by the name of Collins. While here they vis ited the poultry farms of Grant Pow ell, K. C. Flene and P. L. Waite. Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Hatch of Cot tage Grove, and Mrs. Belle Schlndler of Roseburg, were dinner guests at the home of Mrs. Lulu Dusenberry last Friday, on their return from Ashland where they had been attending the I. O. O. F. convention and visiting friends also. It Is reported that the mining men. who have taken over the Sleepy Hol low ranch at the mouth of the creek re doing some extensive prospecting on their property and hope to soon be Installing the machinery necessary .for taking out gold. It has long been jthe theory of old miners and settlers, that an old river channel lies under this property, which if proven true, should make it a rich mining proposi tion. A. Longwell has moved his family from the Lucky Bart mine to Rogue River, where he has been employed for pome time in the new sawmill that Is being erected there.. George Smith has Just recovered from a siege of the mumps, and re turned to his work, and now there are two new cases reported. Mrs. Nina Dusenberry and her daughter Mildred are the latest victims. George Ring was a Jacksonville- vis itor one day last week, where he re ceived a bounty on a coyote he had killed. Maude and Robert Starns of Grants Pass, visited their grandmoth it. Mrs. Kimball, last Week, returning tiome Friday to attend the graduating ixercises of the high school class of 84 members, of which Robert was one. Henry Baker of Evans Valley1 wns In this vicinity Sunday looking up some of his horses on the range, Mr. and Mrs. Doll Moore of Gold Hill, were visitors on the creek Sun day. Mr. and Mrs. Waite are marketing some fine Rhode. Island friers now' having made one shipment to San Francisco, this week. Evanson and family ot Medford and Mrs. A. Cornell, spent Sunday with Mr. nnd Mrs. Harry von der Hellen. Lucien Wilcox just returned from a week's stay in San Jose. Cal., where he was called by the death of a brother. Mrs. F. R. Berger and little daugh ter of Riverside, Cal., are spending a few weeks with -Mrs. Harry von der Hellen. Miss Edna Rose Walsh died In Medford Thursday, after a brief ill ness of pneumonia.' Interment was made in . Medford. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Draper Walsh. Mr.' and Mrs. J. R. Rader of Phoenix, had dinner with the Harry von der Hellen's last Thursday, after which they all took in the high school play at Eagle Point. LITTLE APPLEGATE Mr. and Mrs. Paul Anderson and family have moved to Medford. Puul Is driving one of Snider's trucks. We are sorry to hear of little Frances Combest's death. Mr. Farley was a week end visitor at the Klenhammer's. . Mr. and Mrs. Al Dunford and Walt Zeidler were callers up the creek one night last week. Although, none had been found nearer south than Douglas county the ban became operative in the state last year, but through an arrangement with tho California department, growers may now ship their cherries after an inspection by competent officials, Mrs. Catherine Haverkamp died Tuesday evening at the home of her sister, Mrs. S. B. McNnir, of Scenic Drive. Mrs. Havercamp has been ill for some time, spending a num ber of months in Tuscon, in hopes of benefitting her health. Mrs. McXair was with her there part of the time; later, Mrs. Havercamp came to her sister's, where she remained until her death, Tuesday. Interment will b at the old home, Kansas City Mo. Mrs. McNair will accompany the re mains and expects to stay for a few weeks. During the past few years, Mrs. Havercamp has made many visits to Ashland, nnd made many friends that regret her going and who sympathise deeply wfh he fam ily In their sorrow.
