CHARLEY TALENT
BADLY HURT
Charles P. Talent, state traffic , of
ficer, sustained severe injuries Sunday
evening, when his motorcycle plunged
. over the grade, near the Rock Point
bridge on the Pacific highway Into the
Rogue river 35 feet below. Talent
was brought to the Sacred Heart hos
pital in this city.
According to the story told by Tal
ent this morning, he had stopped a
, car, and was in the act of turning
around, when in soma, manner, the gas
throttle was thrown open. ' The sud
den Jump of the machine threw Talent
back of the seat, and before he could
shut off the gas, the motorcycle with,
him had plunged off the bank. Talent
struck his back on a log, and rolled
into Rogue river. He pulled himself
ashore, .however.
ta X-ray examination was made of
uie Injured man's back this noon, and
it is thought he will suffer no perma
nent injuries. He is able to move bis
legs, is, in a cheerful mood, and appar
ently sustained no internal injuries.

the matinee.
All who attended the matinee were
delighted and amazed by the impres
sive performance of the Clavllux. To
try to describe the effect of lights and
colors ipon the emotions as projected
by this instrument is Impossible. One
has to see to believe. Avery one who
fails to attend the ' performance to
night will miss one of the most uni
que experiences offered today in the
real of motion pictures.

NEW YORK, March 10. Twelve
hundred members of the Actors
Equity, associated, yesterday voted to
sustain the organization's demnnd for
the "Equity shop" after June 1 when
its contract with the Producing Man
agers' association expires. Only two
dissenting votes were cast.
Hugh Frayne pledged the complete
support of the American Federation
of Labor, if a strike follows refusal of
the managers to meet the demuml.
"The final attitude of the managers
is uncertain as last week the Hhuberts
who control seventy per cent of the
city's theaters served notice they
would accept the "Equity shop."
The "Equity shop" provides thnt
casts must be either wholly composed
of Equity members or wholly non
Equity actors.
A somewhat unusual talk is In store
tor the members of the. Medford Cham
ber of Commerce at the forum Wed
nesday. The subject is "A Trip to
New Zealand," which will bo present
ed by M. C. Reed of Ashland, who for

situations which confronted him on his

There has been no community sing
ing at the forum for the past year and

' members decide to make it a part of
tbe program, so those who have objec-
; tions to singing need not stay away on

After an intermission over Sunday
the American ' Legion Indoor circus
will open its doors again this evening.
The crowd who found their way into
tbe Armory on Saturday exceeded that
of the opening night, and indications
point to record breaking crowds each
of the remaining nghls of the circus.
The prize winners of the fifteen dol
lars given away ' nightly, were'
Blanche Jones, 144 Court, 15. R. Lull,
Central Point, and Ruth Fleming of
Jacksonville. Each of the above nam
ed received five dollars cash. There
will be another fifteen dollars in
prizes gven away tonight.
The artlBts who ' do the thrilling
stunts have been practicing new nov
elties to offer the public. Senor Mar
cias on the high wire will balance him
self on a twenty-four inch board at an
angle of 45 degrees and will also jump
clear of the wire into the air and land
on his back on the wire. If he is
lucky, he will rimain there, as th;s
trick is very difficult. Uiie and Laura
who have won many friends in Med
ford with their funny contortion of
ferings are going to put on a clown
dance tonight.

tin took the lead In tho ladles' con
test and Suzette Stennett moved up
to second place among tho babies. '

constituency. After leaving Nevada,
Mr. Cambers located in llutte, Mont.,
where lie was largely Interested In
mining and where ho served four years
as a member of tho city council.
Mr. Cambers strongly endorses the
dry law and promises to strictly en
force the same, as well as other laws.

WASHINGTON. March 10. Con
gressional-investigations were declared
by Charles M. Schwab at n conference
today with President Coolldge to have
produced a state of public hysteria
which Is injuring business.
'I told tho president," he said
afterward, "that general business con
ditions are sound but that develop-!
ment and extension have been held up
by the uncertainty due to this hys
teria and the' holding up of the ad
ministration's tax reduction legisla
tion."
Mr. Schwab also gave tho presi
dent a survey of European economic
conditions as. ascertained during his
recent two months' visit to Germany,
France and Belgium. .

burs and limtalled an automobile reg
istration bureau, to be conducted by
the local chamber of commerce. A
new station la to be located at Marsh
field and another in eastern Oregon in
the near future, the secretary of state
said.
Thefte stations for the reslstration
of cars from other states, are being
located at all points most convenient
for tourists. Letters are to be sent
out soon to all peace officers instruct
ing them to enforce the law requiring
tourists to register in a strict manner.

At a meeting' of truck' and. berry
growers at !hc public library Satur
day, steps were taken toward forming
a growers' organization, In line with
resolutions adopted at the recent
county, agricultural conference.
Irrigation allows and demands in
tensive farming, and the growing of
garden truck and berries, meets that
demand. If Intelligently organized
and carried on, it should be very prof
itable, and promises to develop Into
one of the largest industries in Jack
son county.
