The United States values show a shrinkage during the year 1923, of 5.1 per cent, and a decline from the 1920 'values of 39.3 per cent. In the state a decrease is indicated In numbers of horses, mules and beef 'cattle, And an increase In milk cows, sheep and swine. It la very probable that the increase in milk cows would have been ' considerably more had dairy farm labor been available at lower wages, ' -,tri the United Statos a decrease Is Indicated in numbers of horses, mules, beef cattle and swine, during the year 1923, and small Increases in milk cows and sheep. -'- ,Jackson County Ashland: Herds are 'betas' hnuirht. in this cnnntv for fj &20 per head, small cattle thrown in. ROME,-The, custom Of paying 1 calls, in Rome on New Ycnr's day, both social 'and official, prevails to (Inch an extent It is calculated that more than 2,000,000 calling cards are handed out by the votaries of this old custom. Officials loave cards on all their Superiors; ladies call on the dip lomatic body and the lenders of so ciety, nnd men are supposed to at least leave a Card on 'all their woman friends. The Gold Diggers The picture version of Bnvld Rel asco's noted stage imecess, "The Gold Diggers," opens todny for throe days at the nialto theater. This picture tells of the gay and merry life led by a certain class of chorus girls nnd actresses, popularly known nn "gold dingers.". Aside from their regular profession, these young damsels take great plcnsuro in ex tracting money, clothing, Jewels, en tertainment, and In fact anything from wealthy business men of their ac quaintance, who want to havo the variety and pleasure of such relations. Two of the special features in this picture are the exact and true repro ductions of a complete "behind the scenes" set showing in full detail the dressing rooms, the chorus girls dressing and getting ready for the act and all the hustle and bustlo of a real musical comedy, and a special scene showing Jerry Lamar, the leading lady, in a Spanish dance with all the true Spanish costume and atmosphere. The all-Btar cast Is headed by Hope Hampton and wonderfully supported by Windham Standing, Louise Faz endn, Gertrude Short, Alec Francis, Jed Prouty, Arita Glllman, Peggy Brown, Margaret fSeddon, Johnny Harron, Ann Cornwall, Edna' Tich enor, Frances Ross, Marie Prade and Louise Beaudet.
