The movement is as democratic thruout as it can possibly bo made. No faction, clique or sect is manuring tho Medford scout enterprise. The whole-souled backing which tho com munity 1h giving us Is deeply appreci ated by the men who aro giving so much time to its success. Our only motive Is to provide the best possible advantage for tho training of the boys of Medford In all those essential traits and principles which every American boy should have. The Hoy Scouts of America is the only organization which has successfully put forward a program that has been anything like adequate to meet the great boy prob lem which confronts parents, churches and' communities. A number of very interesting 'features have been ' ar ranged for this meeting, and among thorn a large set of new pictures of Crater Lake park which Col. Thomp son, the park superintendent will show. There was a meeting of the Parent Teachers association held at tho pub lic library In Medford Saturday nfter noon for the county and the official members of tho local Parent-Teacher associations of the county were Invit ed and those of tho Kaglo Point as sociation who responded were Mrs. It. A: AVeldnmn, Mrs. J. W. Smith, Mrs. Floyd Place und Mrs. V. Li. Chil dreth, and they report having a very enjoyable and profitable time and some very fine suggestions mado by so mo of the professors. Among tho gueHts here for dinner Sunday were H. N. Farts 'of the Kflgell orchard, Millard Uobinson, Sherman AVooley, George Ixiwtft, all local, Mr. and Mrs. P. L. Bay, Mr. and Mrs. Vm. Lyman and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Scheffcl of Medford. And after they had partaken of a hearty dinner Mr. Lyman, who Is just approaching his eightieth birthday, challenged the company to play him a game of pitch ing horse shoes. Some of the younger members of the company accepted the challenge and hunting up a lot of shoes they went at it, and spent quite a while playing and finally tho "old kid" was declared victor and carried tho laurels. Word and wife, and John Phillips. lester Hamilton came In from the Rogue River Canal Co.'s ranch of which he Is the manager, and brought in a registered Roan Durham bull for John Allen of Dorby, meeting Mr. Allen hero where he received the bull and started to lead him home. He is a fine looking animal, and relying on Mr. Allen's judgment I would suppose him to be first class. A very noted change In the handling of stock among the stockmen in this country In the past few years is the way they are Improving their stock by import ing tho best breeds of horses, cattle, sheep nnd hogs, for. it is seldom we see one of the old raior-back stock hogs that require from a year and a half to two years to make them weigh two hundred pounds, but now the hog raisers plan to havo their pigs ready for the block in six months, and the same rule holds good with regard to cattle for by the Unit they are a year old they aro as tnnre as they used w be at two or three years old. The world is pronressing and the stockmen hare got to progress with it or drop out and be left. And in speaking of Mr. Allen as a stockman, he started in several years ago to improve his stock by keeping fino stallions and mares an! since then has placed on the mar ket some of the beet horses to be found in the country Other callers Saturday were Don Runnell.
