The youth first appeared here the flrat of the week from tho IIobuc Itlver vicinity, and acemed so nice and forlorn that ho elicited tho sympathy of the police force with his tale of leaving home becauso of a step father etc. Ho lived as best he could on a limited or mythical financial capital. Jn fact tho big heart of Joe Cave, night policeman, was so touched that he let tho boy sleep in his auto one night. Tho boy kindly refrained, probably thru a lapse of memory, from taking the car or garage away. However, the boy himself decided to go Into' the touching business, by next appearing at a local second hand store where ho pawned his cheap watch for a dollar or two, "worked" tho dealer for a new' pair of allocs which he said he would pay for when aome mythical wad of money coming to him arrived and then stole the watch he had JuBt pawned and disap peared. Of course, tho police wor Inform ed, soon captured him and took him beforo County Judge George A. Oard ner In Juvenile court. Tho Judge's neart expanded so with compassion last Thursday that ho gave tho young culprit a locturo and paroled him inio tho custody of County Prohlbl tlon Enforcement Officer H. II. That night when tho household re tired, Mr. Bandefcr, In lino with his second nature of prohibiting, wun seized with a brilliant Idea to pro hibit tho boy from disappearing from tho house during tho night, so he thoughtfully took the boy's outer clothes with him and concealed them leaving the apparently grateful urchin Innocently snoozing away. Ki n n EXPECTED TO REACH TOTAL OVER 2000 Tho school census Is about to be completed in the Medford school dia trlct, No. 49 of Jackson county. It appears that there will bo some Increase over last year, probably con siderably over 2200. Last year's fig ure was 2167. The school enumer ation Includes all children in the dis trict who are from 4 to 20 years of aife. Tho totnl enrollment for this year including both high school and grades, to the date of the last, re port, November 3rd, was 1648. Indi cations are that the enrollment this year will exceed 1800 before the close of school in the spring. The average number of pupils bo longing each day this term was 1576. Tho average dally attendance was ir4l. Tho per cent of attendance of those belonging was 07.7. This is a high average of 96 per cent.
