Get Her uttd Hold Her t "I can pet em. but I can't hold 'cm.1,' Sounds familiar, doesn't It? It is tho cry of a man, of course. He attracts the attention of women. Dlundes, brunes and red-heads all t I ' tne juimo io.minT is Flappers ana w omen old enough to know better. They like to bo to dances, to dine, and to havo him come and hold , thoir hands in tho front parlor. And he is wounded, bo wildcred, astounded! "YVhazza matter, he demandHt I'oor follow! Bo many women know and so few men 'grasp the grand idea of natural selection. Well. KdKar, let mo toll you.' It isn't tho trouble with you It is that the girl who is suited to you, who would lovo you, -and for whom you would feel no doubt has boon passed up in the shuffle. That is to say. you havo probably mot her a dozen times In the course of your peri j;ri nations, but you havo been ho busy looking for her that you passed her up. You didn't even see her. Understand me? It's that way with most everything. "We shop around for a certain kind of blouse in seventeen stores, and in tln seventeenth wo accept one that doesn't fit' and looks liko last year's straw hat. Wo skip through tho pages of a newspaper in an idle momont looking for somo Item of news to slap us bang in tho eye when everybody ought to know that tho best news is on the very first page. It is so in life., as we look over tho throng of elig ibles. Maybe tho first Jill you met. five years ago last summer, was tho one who ought to bo mothering your son and heir right this minute. Of course. It's too late now! Some other fellow has her, and sho probably thinks of rat-poison for his oatmeal every Sunday morning. Don't shop for her. Kdgar. Look for her! That's my advico. Important Item: A man haa asked me to marry him. . Atten denz, my children! I am about to toll you nll'about him. Sounds exciting! nerve to even mention "Sportsman-j ship" when lie has no conception of: the meaning of the word. In tho sec ond place if n team had been re turned the winner under the circum stances his was I surely would keep1 my mouth shut. ' ; As to the "townspeople '.pushing onto' the field and threatening tho of ficials. I must take exception to same. It is true that quite a number of tho spectators got .over tlm wires1 d along the sidelines, but no ono was over on the actual playing field and right here I would like to ask .where the delegation of Salem rooters were? llight along the "sidelines inside tho wire the same as. tho Mod ford people were that ''Holly" is doing so much kicking about. The only difference is-that they were in tho minority. - As to threatening the officials, this statement as far as l havo been able to ascertain. Is in error. Al) that was demanded of tho officials from tho sidelines was a squaro deal, but no threats wero made. As to tho state ment regarding the penalty for hurdl ing It is also incorrect, if ".Holly" denies that his men hurdled It Is due to tho fact that, ho was on the oppo site side of ,tho field uml could not see as I know I could produce enough ovldenco from old foot hall men who saw tho -plays -to prove conclusively that lilnglo hurdled and that ho did it more than once, in fact when fe?u IpmHido their second' touchdown tho play - Just?'' preceding the touchdown was a hurdlo over center and there was a kick on that but the referee allowed the play and through it Sa lem made their second score, so It really doca not look as though tho of ficials were very much afraid of the townspeople." And us for the pen alty the referee only penalized five yards, while the rules call for a 15 yard penalty. Tho article in tho hnloro paper does not mention anything about tho fact that Motif ord made a legitimate touchdown that was not allowed, due to tho fact that tho Salem linesman broke the chain and called back the play which was absolutely wrong and which tho head official practically admitted af- "r tho game. A bend linesman has no Jurisdiction only on offside plays. Now as to the real sportsmanship displayed by the Salem coach, J can produce affidavits to the effect that our "(iniil Kportiiiuau Holly" contin ually coached hia team from the sidn lines, the penalty for which Is half the distance to the goal line. Was any such penalty given? As far as Salem is concerned ahv went home with a game tucked under her belt that wis won in as unsportsmanlike n manner as ny 1 have ever witnessed and 1 have seen at least one or two games that were not played In Medford.
