J?. TAX CAN BE CUT E FUNDAMENTALS -.OF HEALTH ARE i SERMON SUBJECTS ? ; - T.'A.ldree alldlenco at the Presbyter fan', church last night listened ' with deepest Interest to the sane and clear explanation of the Biblical basis for tMtlne Healing. The speaker. Rev. L. B.1 Quick, explained the seven funda mental elements of health as laid don by God thru Moses for the Chil dren of Israel which. If obeyed would hare kept them from all disease. They wero sanitation, sterilization, quaran tine, physical culture, -recuperation, hygiene and dlatectics. : These are the fundamentals which medical science have worked out In our day and are teaching , thru every possible avenue to the general public as the basic laws of 'health. In the new Testament the speaker said,' we find Jesus Christ presented as the Great Physician. He holds that Divine Healing is not In the atonement as taught by many, but comes thru Christ's suffering in his physical body thru the beating with the stripes which occurred before Cal vary, so making physical healing a privilege of the Christian but - not obligatory, which gives the Christian the right to use medical science or not as he chooses or to use both medical science and divine healing also. This explanation to the speaker's mind, re moves many of the objections urged against divine -healing' as taught by many. If In the atonement. It would be obligatory on the Christian to avoid -absolutely any leaning on medical- science making it a sin - to use the doctors, but, If diviine healing Is simply a privilege of the Christian he commits no sin by calling a doctor or may use' bothr means as his faith dic tates. ' The basis for divine healing is a supreme faith In. Almighty God thru Jesus Christ, as the healer of body as well, as of soul. ' "The prayer of faith shall save the sick," is the word of Jesus. .The speaker told of many re markable answers to - prayer In his own ministry, among them being that of .himself .and- wife, when from a medical standpoint there was no pos slble.hopQ for either, also that of his -own mother, tho daughter of a prom inent rsenator, from his own present flfjld and many others. - At the close of the service, several ware anointed' arid prayed for in the p'rayer...meeting room In the presence ottn.-group Of praying workers. At a sefyice next .week, Mr. Quick will answer many of the present day ob jections to divine healing. . Opportu nity .Will also be given for others to .be -prayed for if they will speak to the local pastor; Rev. E. P. Lawrence. ' ; NEW YORK, Nov. 16. William G. McAdoo, secretary, of thfPtreasury in President Wilson's) Iraiiinet, Is con vinced that the federal government can both reduce federal taxation and provide soldiers' compensation, equiv alent to a bonui), he declared in a statement, which was made at the tel egraphic request of tho 'Uterary Di gest, in which. It will be published next week, added that the bonus question "should loni; ago have been talten out ot politics and In uo circumstances snouia do usea tor political advan tage." We can have tax reduction and do justice to the American soldier as well," Mr. McAdoo says, "by treating adjusted compensation as a part of the war cost aqd funding It through an is sue of fifty year bonds. The Interest and sinking fund charge should not exceed 80 to 90 million dollars per an num. This would not prevent a re duction in tuxes. , "The men who served In the trenches got 11.10 per day; those, re serves in America got $1 per day. If the American people believe that it was worth 12.35 per day to serve In the trenches and $2 a day to serve in the reserves in America, then the difference between these rates and what the soldiers have already receiv ed should be paid as an act of justice. "We gave more than 600,000 civil employes of the government during the war a bonus of $240 per annum, and this was continued for more than five years. Is it loss, right to give the men who fought the war equal consideration? Justice must never be measured in dollars; it must be measured only in righteous ness and humanity." The statement was given in answer to a request for Mr. McAdoo's opinion of Secretary Mellon's recent statement on the soldier bonus and tax legisla tion. ' . 8. P.
