Hut before I leave this subject I wish to relate another Incident and then will move on my journey noting aomo Incidents as I passed along the way. There Is a beautiful valley In the southern part of Clackamas coun ty that was noted for tho fertility of (ho soil that in its enrly history wus called Horse Heaven, and ns I was engaged In the early missionary work, in my meanderlngs happened to visit that valley and began to visit and preach ns J did In the Long Town country and tho result was that soon Iho people began to bo Interested and so I arranged lo hold a protracted meeting, and soon aroused tho feel ings of somo of the old bnck-sllrtdon church members who had been iden titled ' with some church or other "back In tho states." but had so fai' neglected to read their bibles and prayor so long that they had lost all religious enjoyment, und when they began to hear the old gospel truths, and their consciences became nroused they 'began to give mo les sons as to the kind of sermons 1 ought to preach, and, especially to avoid anything that was liable to arouse their guilty conscience, but to preach safe things, or In the language of tho old prophet Jeremiah, "plaster with untemperert mortar." So 1 quietly lis tened to them but took my case to the Lord and the next time 1 took for my subject, or text, the denunciations of the Saviour to the Jews aa recorded In the llth chapter of Mathews. 20th to 24th, and the result was that the LoVd wonderfully blessed the effort with the result that these same men Bud women who did not want to hear about Hell and the Judgments of Clod upon the Impenitent were nroused and repented of their bnrkslldlngs, and made their pence with Clod again. And tho final result, so far ns I know, uvis that many precious souls were brought to a saving knowledge of their Saviour. .' Note I commenced to write this letter About three weeks ngo but n' eyes were o Inflamed that I wae-un-, nble to 1 1nlsh It, and now am Kol able to read It over to correct any mistakes a year.
