Pankey it building a chicken bouse In
which he will bouse bU thoroughbred
stock. Mr. Pankey Is going to feature
the Black Minorca of a special grade.
They will be of blooded stock, laying
from 280 to 300 eggs a year. It is said,
surpassing all other grades. Unlike
other chickens that lay good for only
a year or more, these lay from three
to four years. They can also be used
for the table. He Is also going to
raise Black Jersey, not well known in
these parts. He uses these only for
eating as they are of a heavier type,
averaging from ten pounds to as high
as fifteen to twenty. Mr. Pankey is
starting on a small scale, but no doubt
will as soon as possible have a large
chicken ranch.
A company beaded by "Sourdough
Charley," presented an entertainment
in the P & E theatre Wednesday even
ing. "Sourdough Charley" gave a lec
ture concerning the life in Alaska. The
address was very interesting, and was
appreciated by the large audience. He
also displayed a malmute used in
mushing and pulling with other dogs
the sled thru the Alaskan snows, many
furs, totem poles and Items of dress
were displayed. No advance in prlceB
was made, making the program worth
twice the price of admission,
t Iany country people were in evi
dence Monday evening attending the
country store. Several of them suc
ceeded in winning piizeB of a very
nseful nature. All went away satisfied
whether they were lucky or not.
The management has succeeded In
getting a very good program for the
'week. They will present tonight Ruth
Roland in "The Timber Queen" and
"Lonesome Cornera." For Saturday
DigWt they will present Theodore Rob
cits and Milton Bills in "Miss Lulu
Betts." On Sunday and Monday, April
1st and 3d, "All Night" will be shown
starring Rodolph Valentino, and the
following two nighta Lillian Gish and
Wallace Reid in "The Fatal Wedding."
A tennis tournament Is being car
ried on at the local high school, the
students entering in same. No doubt
the keenest rivalry will be between
the junior and senior classes. Both
yossess some very good talent The
Contest being carried on the elimina
tion system, or the "survival of the
fittest." ,
' 'Miss Viola Hughes arrived in this
olty Tuesday afternoon from Butte
Falls to visit Miss Kathleen teller.
. Ira DawBon, formor resident of this
city, arrived from the hills where he
Has been carrying on the occupation
of wodchopper. He is stopping at J.
Q. II. Smith's place In this city.
i; Mrs. II. E. Adams of Oklahoma, who
has been visiting with hor sister, Mrs.
P. W. Sebroan of this ciy for the past
two months left Monday morning l'or
California where she will visit her
brother living there.

J. W. Chambers of this city left for
Klamath Falls where he will be em
ployed on the highway near Fort
Klamath. He left with two teams and
does not expect to be back till next
winter.
The Ladles' Aid society will hold
another of their good food sales to
morrow morning. They have succeed
ed in procuring Mr. Weaver's store to
bold the sale. All the food will be
home baker so the public can rest as
sured that the food is of the best.
Bert Rostel is ' now taking a
course in the Medford Business col
lege. Miss Lorena Law is visiting her
friends and relatives in this communi
ty for the week-end. She was a for
mer student at the high schol but Is
now attending the high school at
Butte Falls.
Mr. and Mrs. L. F. Picket and son
Bruce motored to Corvallis where
Bruce is attending school. Mr. and
Mrs. Picket after stopping in Corvallis
resumed their Journey to Portland
where they are now sojourning for a
brief time.
Miss Edith Jacobs is now the proud
owner of a new Star sedan, which she
bought lat week. It seems rather un
usual to see her driving an automobile.
The "Peerless Four" will present
another one of their popular dances
tonight They have added a feature
to their reiiertoire.
Archie Parker is now employed at
Wlmer as engine man In Reichsteln's
saw mill. He left for hipost Wednes
day morning.
Joseph Uoswell was a visitor with
his family last Thursday for a brief
time. His business was so pressing
In Hombrook, Calif., that it was Im
possible for him to stay longer.
The phonograph that has for so long
adorned the show window will at last
be awarded. On Saturday evening the
person holding the lucky key that will
open the lock will be given the phono
graph which is of a very good quality.
Keys for the lock were given with
each one dollar purchase. A large
number were given out
Miss Evangeline Hansen was hos
tess at a party given In honor of her
fifteenth flrthday Saturday evening.
Many of her schoolmates were present
to enjoy the evening. The time waa
passed by gameB, songs, etc. Refresh
ments were served to all present, who
regretted that Miss Hansen's birthday
came only once a year.
Miss Hazel Tetherow Is now the
proud possessor of a new Star road
ster which she acquired a short, time
ago.
The many friends of Malcolm
Wright, formerly of this city and prin
cipal of the high school, will be sorry
to learn that he had the misfortune of
having his nose broken. During the
opening of the baseball season at Gold
Hill, between the school of that city
and of Sams Valley, a foul ball de
scended on his face, breaking his nose
in three places. ,
The dances at the Oregon Dancing
Acadoiny are being well attended by
townsfolk and others not residing
here. Dances to which the public are
Invited are given every Tuesday and
Thursday, the other nights being re
served for private lessons.
Mrs. Roen and cousin Mrs. Gnshcr
of Luverne, Minnesota, arrived In the
city Thursday. They are now visiting
nt the liome of Mrs. Gearhart. Their
arrival was a surprise to her.

Mr. Casoboor left for Klamath Falls
whore he will be employed.

Invitations are to be sent to the
woman's party, league of women
voters, national non-partisan league,
socialist party committee of 48, all
Rtat; federations of labor, all inter
national labor unions, labor parties
of various statcB, and hundreds of
other separate organizations, asking
them to appoint delegates clothed
with authority to take such steps as
are necessary to bring about a po
litical coalition for the 1924 preHiden
tial campaign.
The aim of the convention will be.

labor party said, to secure agree
ment among the separate groups on
one candidate on national and state
organizations.
