the Willow Springs Thursday club are
planning a bardtlmes party to be held
at the school houso on the evening of
March 17th; Everyone in the com
munity is cordially Invited to be pres
ent and wear their oldost clothes.
Prizes will be given for trio most pov
erty stricken dressed woman or man.
A short program will be given and
supper will follow. Everyone who
wishes to fish will have the chance.
There Is sure to be fun and good eats.
W. A. Thompson has JUHt purchased

sightly elevation of their home they
can get a splendid view of the valley

George and Harry Eldon have been
very successful In trapping skunks
this winter and spring, lidding the
neighborhood of a number of chicken
thieves and netting themselves a nice

The H. II. Clarke family received
. news last Saturday morning of tha
, death of Mr. Clarke's father, at his
i home in Portlnnd, on Friday. March 2.
' Mr Clarke, Sr., has been in very poor
health for some weeks and the news
was not unexpected. II. II. Clarke
left for Portland Saturday evening.
I Tho J. W. Blrkholz and the J. W.
Elden families were evening guests at
the Parker home last week Wednes
day. The Thursday club had an unusual
ly large turnout at their March meet
' lng. The members of the club scored
: well In both the social and physical
tests. Tbe April meeting will be with
Mrs. Clyde Richmond.
Mrs. Helen Brophy returned to ber
home In Klamath county last Friday
after a two weeks visit in the valley.
There were a number of very pleas
ant social affairs in her honor during
her stay.
Mrs. Omar Porter is making a very
satisfactory recovery and was able
to leave the Medford hospital last
week.
Mrs. Hugh Porter and daughter left
last Saturday for Chico, Calif., to be
the guests of her parents, Mr. and
Mrs. Joe Hoagland for a number of the thirteen year old school boy who
weeks. Mrs. Porter is convalescent' slipped away from the Wallace home
from her recent operation and will Wednesday night. He came here re

A helpful group of indies gathered

of the thrift shop of the Jackson
county Red Cross, gave brief talks on
the program of this vital county work
which Is carrying out policies, by
which mnny who struggle with social
and economic handicaps and difficul
ties are enabled to make their own
way by learning self help.
Mrs. I.ycilnril, Mrs. Dunlnn, Mrs.
flregory, Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Sehaffer,
Mrs. Pendleton nnd Mrs. McBride
were present. Tho ladies planned to
organize a sewing group, of which
Mrs. Dunlap will bo supervisor and
which will hold regular meeting, tho
next meeting to be held on Wednes
day. March 14. Thoy will piece quilts,
mnko garments, nnd remodel cast off
garments and many other articles of
wearing oppnrel for tho thrift shop
of the Red Cross, helping in the
splendid program now underway to
create thrift and conservatism.
Mrs. Pendleton gave a little child's
white crocheted bonnet to be taken
to the thrift shop to be sold there for
a trifle or given to soma one needing
It. It had been given to her years
ago by a mun who had found it in a
mud puddle and who kept It because
he thought some little face would
look so charming in it. So Mrs. Pen-J
dleton cleaned it and kept it, waiting
for the opportunity to use It where
it would do tho most good.
