Born In Clay county in lllnols, April 15th, 1839, where he spent his youth and in 1851 crossed the plains with ox teams to Califor nia und lived thero through the gold rush. October 2, 1863, was married to Rebecca Childers and to this union there were born 1 4 children, seven lions and seven daughters, ten of whom aro living today. In 1S63 he moved to Jackson (iounty, , where he homcsteaded' his present' farm in Sams Valley. He -leaves five sons and five daughters to mourn his loss besides a host of friends: Mrs. J. C.
