Tho high school play "The Dutch Dctocilvd," was attended by pretty near a capacity audience, just a few seats that were not taken. The stu dents were given a certain amount of tickets to sell, most all of them wero disposed of which accounts for tho attendance. Tho play Itself was very well given each member of the cast giving his or her parts good. After tho Christmas' holidays tho play will bo given by tho present cast In Gold Hill, Phoenix and Sams Val ley, at which places a full house Is hoped for. Mr. Moore Hamilton, who has been attending the Oregon Agricultural College ut CVrvallls, arrived In this city Wednesday, to visit his parents and old friends. A fourteen-page' Christmas edition was Issued today, by tho staff of the Central Pointer, high school paper. School will be resumed January 8,- a period of two weeks, a woek longor than the usual custom. . Programs were given in the grammar school, while the Junior class in high school presented a play to the student body. Mr. Carl Boswell, well known young man'. Is suffering from poison oak, which he got while in the act of cut ting Christmas trees in tho neighbor ing hills. It is hoped that the young man- will soon be relieved of his suffering. Tho bazaar, -which was held in Thur bcr's store and given by the Ladles' Aid society, was a decided success, as every article tn stock was sold out at good prices. Refreshments . were well bought of also. A Christmas service will be held In the Drick church Sunday evening, Christmas eve. Tho Reverend Ilcatty will deliver the service and music by the choir. Mr. John Siclcr,, of this city who has been cutting Wood on his home stead at Butte Kalis, returned to his home the first part of this week, to enjoy tho Christmas holidays with his family. A pre-lnvenlory sale l being car ried on at Thurber's store, a large number of bargains can bo found here, as tho prices have been grcutly cut. Mr, Banty Owens, who has been so journing in California tho past seve ml months, returned to spend the winter -with his mother, ' Mrs. Julia Owens. ' . Superintendent Carter emphasized the fact that the teacher must grow in her profession or drop out. Tho ludies of Phoenix served free lunch. Teachers and puplbr are suffering with severe colds. Retards tho work Just a little, as some are compelled to stay out a few days. Tho grade teachers havo in each room a nicely decorated Christmas tree. The children are enjoying the tree nnd will until they. reach tho climax', that is when Santa Claus takes the presents off. Mr. Williams, a citizen of tho com munity, gave tho high school a read ing nt the opening period last Friday. The high school invites those who have musical talent or literary tal ent, to come and share tho good things with It. The Rchools will close December S3 until January 2, 1923. 1L0W SPRINGS The Willow Springs community Christmas tree will be held at the school house tonight. . The .decoration committee have everything In readi ness; tho entertainment committee promise a very pleasing program; and, best of all, Santa Claus has promised to give a little of his preciotiB time and to bring a full sack for tho little folks. Harris, Frank Dean,' ami Griffith Cowgill ar rived tho latter part .of lost week. and will remain until the first of the year. Although Hugh Porter 1s still con fined to his bed, it Is considered that he is slightly better. The Porter fam ily had expected to spend Christmas with Mrs. Porter's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Hoagland, at Chico, but have had to give up those plans on account of Mr. Porter's illness. The Cobb Law; family are planning a big family reunion for Christmas time. It has been some time since all the family have been together, since most of the children are away from homo, Mr. and Mrs. It. W. Nichols and Don aid were Sunday dinner guests at tho Grimm's home in Central Point. Mrs. Robert Brophy arrived Thurs day evening from Aspgrove, Klamath county, where she and Mr. Brophy havo been for the past four months. Mrs. llrophy will visit lior parents and friends for several weeks. Mrs. Clyde Richmond's mother and sister, Mrs. Roberts and Mrs.' Myrtle Wood of Salem, and brother, K. D. Roberts of Spring Coulee, Canada, are expected the lust of the week for an extended visit with the Richmond family. The party are making the trip from Salem by auto. On Dee, 13th, some of the ladles of tho neighborhood gave a pleasant surprise party for Mrs. J. W. Elden, the occasion being the anniversary of her birthday. The ladies enjoyed a social afternoon. ANTIQCH ITEMS Mr. and Mrs. Ed Russell of Central Point visited several days this week In the Meadows. Mrs. Morrison Is staying with her daughter, Mrs. I). Chapman, as tholr children have been very sick with la grippe and necessitated the doctor coming out for tho baby. Mr. Johnson and Mr. Wright were out Sunday to S, Pollard's. Wm. I'omeroy of tho Meadows was down In this neighborhood hunting cattle the first of the week. Terrell brothers were out Saturday and went to town for tholr supplies, Dell Morrison, wu;t several neigh bors to help, urs plucklg turkeys to ship for Christmas. Mrs. L. Weiss of Central Point, Is visiting her sister In Sams Valley. Mr. and Mrs. Copely visited with Mr. and Mrs. Chapman Thursday. The camp Is experiencing a general revival after several years Inactivity and a small membership, due to war causes which changed our industrial population in large numbers. The spcciul field work of District Doputy Welch of Ashland, boosted the membership back to the pre-war rank. Plans are under way to refurnish the lodgo room In conjunction with the local Royal Neighbor camp. Merle 13. Kellogg, who has been em ployed with his uncle John Uaraeberg on the llllheo orchards since tho war and recently loft fpr California is em ployed In tho Santa Fe railroad shops at San Bernardino, Calif., his wife's former home. When he left here he expected to take a position with one of the Curtiss airplane company in southern California, resuming his war vocation as a mechanician, but now plansc tho coming season to go into a business venture at IjOS Angeles with Lloyd Rlppey, a former Medford boy. The Ladles' Aid society bazaar and cafeteria dinner venture put on last Friday proved a grand success in a financial way. They sold out their entire stock of home made clothing and Christmas gifts and exhausted their food supplies In serving dinner. This was their first effort since they recently reorganized after a lapse of several years and the church was with out a local pastor.. Other branches of the church services and work are be ing planned since the church has been reopened with a local pastor. Mr, and Mrs, Roy White of Lexing ton, Oregon nre-vlsiting aC the' Frank M. Ho was at one time quite an orchardlst in this section and if I am not mistaken now owns considerable land near Wcllen. John Howard, ono of the old Civil war veterans who makes his home with one or his old neighbors, Peto Belts, was also bore for dinner and remained overnight, going up home Saturday morning on the Trail stago. Thomas F. Nichols, principal owner in the Eagle Point Hardware store and the Eagle Point pool room, and his partnor in the pool room, Clarence Pruitt, and two Btrangers, and I learned that one of them was a representative of tho .Medford Grocery Co. Snturday was a remarkably dull day so fur as business is concerned as there was scarcely anyone in from tho country. Smyth, won the radio I championship held recently in eon-j junction with the lloston Radio show. Brown of the firm of Geo. Brown and Sons, he told me that lie expected that he anil his wife would- start for San Jose, Calif., to visit their daughter Hazel, to spend Christmas with them and I suppose they are there by this time as they intended to start last Friday, tho 15th. Wm. Perry who has charge of W. Hart Hamilton s business here, reports that he has-just-Mt-st--,haIf-mlle-or uew wire fence on his place along the Crator Lake highway, and that J. I. Groves has been appointed to care for said highway and keep It In repair as In some of the soft places it needs to have more crushed rock put on it to fill up the places where it is giving away, Charles W. Long who is In charge ot a dump truck and a grader attached called for dinner Monday noon and re mained overnight. Is employed by the state to look after the Crator Lake highway to keep tho soft places filled up and to look after tho road generally and koop it in repair, a vory judicious provision. Among the lodgers at the Sunnysido .Monday sight were L, C. Farrls. of Grants Pans, Arthur Dailey, Burns Ferry, Idaho, George Slogle of Med ford. There were five passengers on the Uutte Fulls stage Monday morning on their way to Uutte Falls and Prospect, Among them was a man by tho name of Joo Gablls from Montana, and while he was waiting while changing tho mall 1 engaged him In conversation i and he gave me an account of the kind of climate they have up where ho came from. He spoke of ono morning they had just before lie left when at 7 a, m. tho temperature was 7 below zero, by 0 n. m. it was 11 below, at noon 20 bolow and a heavy wind with It and that when he started there was a heavy storm raging and that It lust ed until lie reached Portland and waa greatly surprised to find tho vegeta tion looking so fresh and tho grass still green.
