Destruction of the army dirigible C-14, was prevented today In the opinion ot officers at Langley Field by the presence of, mind of a member ot the crew when a bole was torn In the blimp's gas bag as it was being taken from its hangar. When hy drogen began to hiss from the bag those nearby scurried for safety, ex cept one man, who pulled the rip cord, releasing tho gas. Officers who witnessed the acci dent declared that if this had not been done the blimp probably would have met a fate similar to that of its sister ship, the C-2, recently destroy ed at San Antonio. The bag of the C-14, according to officers, will have to be rebuilt. The name of the member of the crew who is believed to have saved the dirigi ble was not made public.
