' U BRINGING ,vE CIRLIa WANT TO KNOW IF II - vE. CAN "WEAR OUR. HIKING SUTts ir- A"3 yt TP) A CUOCs BE DEPT. ; OF JUSTICE E WASHINGTON,. Juno 1.. (By the Associated Press.) A new broadside tiom the democrats with the adminis tration in general and the department ot justice in particular as targets fol lowed action by the house rules com mittee on the resolution seeking In vestigation , of the alleged laxity pf the government in tlio prosecution ot war fraud cases. . The committee by a vote of 7 to4, rescinded Ita action giving privileged status to the Woodruff-Johnson reso lution for investigation of the prose cution, and the storm broke thereon. . Representative Gamett, the demo cratic leader and a member of the committee, declared that according to his Information Attorney General Dougherty had induced Chairman , Campbell to chance his vote to pre vent investigation of the department of justice. Chairman Campbell and Represen tative Schall, republican ot Minne sota, who voted originally to report the resolution, reversed themselves and supported a republican motion to rescind. Representative Pou, North Carolina; ranking democrat of the committee, made a point of order against the motion, but Chairman Campbell overruled it. i .Mr. Pou and Representative Gar rett, Tennessee and Riordan of New York, democrats; ' and Johnson, re publican of South Dakota, joint au thor with Representative Woodruff, republican of Michigan, of the resolu tion calling for investigation, voted against any change of front. Tho committees action means that . the resolution will never reach the house and ends all agitation so far as the houso is concerned for a con gressional inquiry as the resolution cannot be taken up without a special rule.
