There is to W a citizen's tniiuius: camp tit (.'amp Low is this summer nml up. to date there have boon no uppli cants from this part of the state. This is hart! to understand. According to oenl boys who ntteiui oil the enmp last yenr." a splendid time was had by all." Not only was a grounding in military science secured. something of value to any American eitir.eii. but there was plenty of fresli air, pood exer cise, substantial food, and all the bills paid by Tuole Sam. Usually vacations are expensive and not altogether profitable nf fairs. Hut here is a vacation provided free of charge which will be certain to pay substantial dividends late on in life. There is no military service involved. The young man who takes this training is under no greater obligation in ease of war, than the one who doesn't. lUit he has a far greater chance of being useful to his country in ease war should descend upon the world again. And that is the really important item. Medford should be well repre sented at this citizen's training camp this summer. Howe's Circus in Medford Today ft Quill Points Don't bolt your food. Haste makes waist. Another annoying insect of summer is the one who brags about his daily cold bath. N A boy usually turns out well if circumstances require him to turn out regularly at 3 a. m. It may be that the old-timers lived longer because it was a Ion w ay to a corner drug store. The nation pays tribute to day to the memory ot those who fought and died In America's wars, the reverent observance not conflicting to any ex tent with dollar chasing and chronic agitating. The s-s-s-ish-of the electric fan is heard in the valley, and the hand of the sody squirt is on the throttle. An unplugged dollar that has showed up at least once in every contribution box in town, appeared at the Chautau ' Qua last eve. It was the top piece cf silver, when two admissions were purchased. ANOTHER DEPLORABLE CONDITION (Letter: Eugene Register) "Where is your civic pride? It is not hung out as conspicuously as your linens. The curb is for trees or shrubs. It is embarrass ing to be slapped in the face by a union suit. as you pass by on the sidewalk. Back yards were made for wash lines. After walking through a cemetery and reading the epitaphs one wonders where all the bad people are buried. t It may be that Europe's proletariat has run after stnuigs gods, but it no longer worships the idle. Dernice Brown, prima donna of the white tops, to b seen with the Howe's Circus In Medford today. When an oM maid marries, she worships her husband. Hut lie i!cver knows whether is is love or gratitude. The youth with a yearning for crime doesn't read dime novels now. The movies are much more instructive anvwav. One man in ten will join any blamed thing you orgauize, provided you give him some sort of badge to wear. In the long run, wouldn't it be cheaper to support the weak-wits in some institution rather than elect them to office. Some people are so busy mourning for departed liusiness that they can't work up an interest in new business that is waitiug to be courted. "The Busy Hand Reform Associa-j tkm is to keep its founders from work ihe hidden mission of this organiza tion is keep its founders from working. ' Every watch, guaranteed. WEEK END VISIT (Coot Bay News) Mrs. Olga Weekly of Myrtle Point, is visiting Mrs. Thomas Hall for a few days. The semi-annual hallucination of the hind-end brakemen and other railroad employes, that they are immune from governmental action when it comes to wages is underway. Babe Ruth Babe is right threw dirt in the umpire's face, and Ty Cobb stepped oh the gent's toes, and it is hoped no temperamental ballplayer will forget himself and kick a diamond arbiter where it will do the most good. F. PreBton of the Applegate, was in from his smiling ficres today, and re ports his lower 80 giggling. A bumper crop of weeds flourishes on all vacant lots, and King Boris of Bulgaria is sure or his throne, and nicotine slaves should be able to get a good nickel cigar next fall. A Tree That May Banish Leprosy WASHINGTON, D. C. Announce ment that the number of patients on the famous leper island of Molokai, Hawaiian Islands, is steadily growing less, due to the paroling of patients apparently cured by chaulmoogra oil, turns attention to this important disease problem In the tropical pos sessions of the United States, and to the possibility that it may one day be entirely solved. What the magic chaulmoogra oil is and where it comes from is told in the following bulletin issued from the Washington, D. C, headquarters of the National Geographis society. Known In Kat for Azcs. "Though chaulmoogra oil, made from the seeds of the chaulmoogra tree, has been used in India, and other parts pt the east for centuries for the treatment of skin diseases, there was long a mystery about it to Westerners. The fruit, round and about the size of oranges, found their way to many of the bazaars and markets of India, Burma and Kiam, but little was known ot the source of supply. So long as the oil was merely rubbed on the skin and taken internally, it seemed to be only a pal liative, and there was no great worldwide interest in it. But since western science separated the cura tive principles and prepared them in a form which makes possible hypo dermic injection, there have been brought about what appear to be many permanent cures. "When this stage of development had been reachfd, so that hope could be held out -practically for the first time to many of the sufferers from Hardly a person in Medford awoke this morning 'without a Utile of th old time thrill of circus day. Scores of people were up brisfit aud early to see the cars unloail iind rutch a glimpse of a few of the wild animals, part of the famous annual revue which Is one of the many great features cf the Howe's iAimlon Circus. The grand free street parade oc curred at 12 on the downtown streets. Immediately after the parade a "grand, free exhibition" occurred at the show grounds, which will bo re peated this evening at 7. The program oeiied promptly at 2 o'clock with the beautiful and gor geous spectacle.' "Cinderella in Junxle land." Many people appear in this extravaganza composed of musical selections, artistic jungle scttitiKS and radiant electrical effects. The wild animal program followed and was filled with awe-inspiring thrills. This Is the first circus In America to reduce the ndmlnskin price to SO cents. one of the most dreadful diseases known, the demand for the raw ma terial became much greater than the available supply. With the Idea of obtaining seeds and from them grow ing a "crop of tho benefit-lent trees, I the United States Department of Agriculture sent a plant explorer to southeastern Asia to search for the unknown chaulmoogra forests from which the epoch-making cures had flowed. A T-ong Trail. "It was then that the world's ignorance of what had become one of nature's priceless boons, became evi dent. The oil was in use in Slam, and It was thought that tho trees, existed there. I!ut a Journey through all the promising regions of the country failed to disclose a single tree. The trail then led across the line Into Tlurma where a few lno lated trees were found, but without fruit. Clues were followed for hun dreds of miles farther before for ests of the chaulmooxras were en countered in central Burma. "The gathering of chauImooRra fruits In Ilurma is not without its dangers. Wild elephants live In herds in these Jungles and now nnd then attack and destroy the nearby villages. The forests ore also Infested with man-eating tigers. It was only after an encounter with one of the latter that the American expedition was able to take from the region a supply of tho long-sought seeds. With the seeds obtained, a plantation of chaulmoogras has been establish ed lif Hawaii and the beginning of a domestic, supply of the valuable oil is, looked for In about, eight years." HOW MUCH DO YOU KNOW? Inasmuch as the state of Oregon has a law prohibiting cigarette smoking by masculine upstarts, it should be amended to keep rouge sticks away from feminine whiffets. There was good old Dr. Storm, who would eome up in his gig, when the colic rocked my form, and my agony was bitf. "When he'd filled me up with dope, ho would say, "111 do my best; with his sickness I can cope if he's given perfect rest. Do not let him walk a step, let his sleep be long and sweet, and I'll stake my wel1 known rep that he'll sown be on his feet." There was sense in being ill in those bright days gone so long, when the sawbones said, "He still! It est till you. are well and strong!"
