Holmes, well known and esteemed resident of Central Point for the past twenty years, after a lonjr and dixtretulnR Illness, was call ed to hi -reword. Saturday afternoon at the family home here. Death, In spite of tha fart that he had been tlrfor many months, came as a great surprise to his many friends and fam ily on account of tiie fact that Joe, .as -he was known, had made so many Valiant efforts to throw off his illness and had no many times been the win ner, that it was hoped he might again recover and for the few short years that were still his portion, be well, and In the evening of life be free from pain. A man of remarkable will power, an optimistic philosopher, and one of God's grandest noblemen, Mr. Holmes stood for all that was hisih and good and was known the country over as "Everybody's Friend" He endured intense suffering with great fortitude and resignation and never questioned or wondered why it was so, firmly believing that the ways of" Him who is all wise were right. In all that he did his foremost thought and Wish was to do right. His life was exemplary, his spirit admirable, and the world seems better for his living. No- higher tribute could be paid him than the adoration, devotion andlove which his widow and family hold for him. ' The funeral services were held at Weeks-Conger funeral parlors in Medford Tuesday afternoon and the body was that evening taken to Fort- land where it was cremated. Later a son will take the remains east to the land of his ancestors and at the place of hie birth, in Chester,- 111., scatter them on the Mississippi river, which river he knew and loved, on account of having . been engaged in steamship business there for many years. - Mr. and Mrs. J. Granville Love, who have been residents of Central Point for the past two years left the first of last week for Iowa where they will make their permanent home. During their residence here young Mr. and Mrs.. Love made many friends and it was with a great deal of regret that they saw them go elsewhere to make their home. It is the hope of the en tire community that success and good health . will follow them wherever they go, and that in the years to come Central Point will again wel come them home, if only for a visit Mr. and "Mrs. Love were entertained much by their young friends here prior to their departure, i Mrs. Merrill Betts and small son.
