EAGLE POINT EAGLETS Last Friday forenoon Miss Alwell Randall, Miss Ella Pettyman and Miss Anna Ray Conley, three of the Butte Falls teachers, called for dinner on their way to Rogue River to witness a game of basketball between the Butte Falls team and the Rogue River teams and on Monday forenoon there were four young men came In, Prof. Ward Lawrence O'Brien, Ernest Abbott and Harold Patten, members of the Butte Falls high school, and remained until about noon and then went to the rail road track to meet Mr. George Albert who is running an accommodation train for the benefit of people who wish to travel in that way. He has a small motor ear that he uses in that way and the people of Butte Falls and vicinity find it a very great. conven lence. They report that the Butte Falls team carried off the honors of five of the games out of seven, and in addition to other pleasures connected with the trip they had a very social time while In Rogue River. It seems as though S. II. Harnish one of our neighbors, has his share of troubles, for just a very short time ago I had to record the loss of a dwel ling house by fire. He had It rented to two young men and he supposed that they were living In it. and no insur ance, but he has no: heard of or seen either of them since. And then last week, he got up a cow to furnish milk for the family and tied her up by the neck leaving the calf beside her with a partition between them and in the: morning when he went out to milk found her tumbled over with her neck broken. In looking around for items of inter est to write up for the readers of the Mail Tribune, I met Ray and Robert Hamish, Just going over to their fath er's to move two mammoth Chester White hogs, taking them to better pas ture. They are Burely fine specimens of hogs," but the most attractive part of the outfit was the nine little rust ling white pigs that Mr. Harnish had Just weaned. I should Judge that they would weigh about 25 or 30 pounds each and were as round as a barrel, but not so large. I am glad to see rthat the farmers are waking up to the necessity of raising a better breed of stock, the Chester While, Duroo Red. Poland China and after feeding it pro perly for a week or so can make. It take on from tw to three pounds of flesh a day. I know of one Instance hen the. Into John W. Smith who lived on Big Stlokey on the edgo of the desert on th Eagle Poltvt-Phoonix rood took a small Duroc Jorsey pig and made It gain at first V to a pound u day and then two pound and later three pounds a day until he got to bo large as he wanted htiu to be, welshing him every day. With a Utile, care and attention oue can improve their stock, t care tint what kind or breed It Is, and by crossing and breed ing up can soon get rid of the old rasorback bred of hog, or th old degenerate stock of cattle and bring out a breed of beef or dairy stock.
