old Brophy place. The air compressor

Roy Vaughn made a business call at
R. B. Vincent Monday.
Herbert and Thomas Carleton are
gathering Cattle this week. Cattle on
the range during these cold snowy
days axe suffering.
Wm. Grieves purchased a small
bunch of sheep of R. B. Vincent and
moved them to his mountain home
Tuesday.
There were quarterly meeting ser
vices held at Trail by Rev. C. E. Gla
zier. There was a basket dinner and
everyone reports a good time.
Mrs. L. M. Phillips left Monday for
Springfield. Oregon to visit her daugh
ter and son. She expects to visit her
daughter in Eugene before returning.
Lester Phillips visited Carl Thomas
during vacation. They spent part of
the time exploring Camels Hump
mountain and had a good time In general.
Gladys McDonald and Violet Phil
lips are on the sick list this week.
A happy surprise party met at
George Weeks' home Saturday In
honor of his birthday. About thirty
people were present and a good time
with good eats was reported.
Mr. and Mrs. Wm. McDonald enter
tained Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Howell
to dinner Monday.
An important land sale took place
this week when the John Grieves
ranch was purchased by Dr. Buchner,
formerly of Colorado. Dr. and Mrs.
Buchner have made their home at
nshland for several months. They
made a pleasure trip to Crater Lake
last summer and became interested in
our part of the county as a place to
live. The consideration was not made
public. Dr. Buchner plans to remodel
all the buildings and build a modern
up to date home. The community is
happy to hare these people live among
tnem. :
' The many friends and acquaintances
of little Ralph Clary are glad to hear
of his being on the road to recovery.
He was first quits badly burned on the
hands, and then took down with pneu
monia and later had to undergo an
operation for gathering in the ears.
He has had a hard siege.
Almost every one has been suffer
ing of colds and had sore throats.
Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Howell made a
business trip to Medford last Wednes
day. .

to have medical aid.

EAGLE POINT EAGLETS
Last Friday forenoon Miss Alwell
Randall, Miss Ella Pettyman and Miss
Anna Ray Conley, three of the Butte
Falls teachers, called for dinner on
their way to Rogue River to witness a
game of basketball between the Butte
Falls team and the Rogue River teams
and on Monday forenoon there were
four young men came In, Prof. Ward
Lawrence O'Brien, Ernest Abbott and
Harold Patten, members of the Butte
Falls high school, and remained until
about noon and then went to the rail
road track to meet Mr. George Albert
who is running an accommodation
train for the benefit of people who
wish to travel in that way. He has a
small motor ear that he uses in that
way and the people of Butte Falls and
vicinity find it a very great. conven
lence. They report that the Butte
Falls team carried off the honors of
five of the games out of seven, and in
addition to other pleasures connected
with the trip they had a very social
time while In Rogue River.
It seems as though S. II. Harnish
one of our neighbors, has his share
of troubles, for just a very short time
ago I had to record the loss of a dwel
ling house by fire. He had It rented to
two young men and he supposed that
they were living In it. and no insur
ance, but he has no: heard of or seen
either of them since. And then last
week, he got up a cow to furnish milk
for the family and tied her up by the
neck leaving the calf beside her with a
partition between them and in the:
morning when he went out to milk
found her tumbled over with her neck
broken.

came in and epeut Monday and Tues
day at the Sunnysid. He seems to
bo on a deal with parties above here
on Little Butte creek, to Introduce
fine Percheron stallion in that section
of thV country. He w ent back to Med
ford this Wednesday afternoon.
Mrs. Thomas F. Nichols went to
Medford Saturday and her husband
took his supper at the Sunnyslde and
so did Aden Haselton.
I understand that the dance wis uot
very well attended and there was evi
dence that there wai some moonshine
around as it became nncessary for our
town marshall to use his billy on one
man who became too boisterous. This
Is the second time the same man has
had trouble at a dance at Trail, and
been knocked on the head for his con
duct He may learn to behave himself

The railroad men are having some
trouble in repairing the road as when
tney ran over it a short time ago with
their small locomotive they found the
old ties were so rotten that the rails
gave way with the result that when
they were coming out with two or
three small flat cars behind a" Ford
loaded with ties the raits gave way the
second time and tho result was they
bad to leave the ties and one of the
