CARRIED 14347, NO PROTEST FILED The hoard of education is gratified at the overwhelming vote cast in fa vnr of the public schools budget at last Wednesday's school budget elec tion when the vote for was 14:1 and 4 7 against. Only property owners were entitled to vote at this election and there w;as little interest, as shown by the fact that only li" persons vot ed. At the public meeting of the board held just prior to the opening of the election Wednesday afternoon to hear any protests to the tentative budget or any feature thereof, no opposition whatever developed. The attendance was small. The budget carries an appropria tion of $!is,T:tO for tho expenses of the current school year, which began the third Monday in June and ends the third Monday ot next June. Prof, ltelnier ad dressed the convention on the work which the experiment station is doing on lllight Resistant Pears. This was pronounced the, largest fruit growers' convention ever held in California, and was a remarkable success from every standpoint. Professor ltelnier also visited the leading pear distrists of California, Including the Sacramento and Santa Clara valleys. Over 90 per cent of the pear grow ers of that state now belong to the California Pear tlrowers' association, and this organization Is doing a won derful work for the industry. Kstes, wife of jr. .1. Kstes of Medford, passed away at the home of her son, Itunkin Kstes, of this city, Wednesday, -November 23. at S a. in. after an illness c f two days. Death was due to par alysis. .Mrs. Kstes was born In Meridian, Miss., Teh. 2S, 1S4S. Aged 7.1 years. S monthu, 2.1 days. She was mar ried to Jl. .1. Kstes in Helton, Texas, in the year 1873. In 1911 they mov ed to Oregon and have resided In Jledford since that time. She was a woman ot Christian character, a member of the Baptist church since childhood.
