Tim speaker pointed out that every nnin owed a duty of community ser vice and utterly failed as a citizen if he refused to give service, because he i:liporl)ed the benefits which do come to each romniuuity and each individ ual member because of the efforts of his fellows. The man who fails to accept and Rive community service is a commu nity liability. Discussing; one of the vital prob lems now facing the community, vi'.: The necessity of aiding the rancher to work out his difficulties after the completion of the construction work on the irrigation districts now building. Senator Thomns said: "Cold Hill district has been com lleted more than a year: Crams Pass district is just finish-ins; Med fcrd district Is building: Ta'ent dis trict has finished its west side unit and is about ready to bui'd its itn mrnse dam and reservoir: Eagle Point district is ready to build. The successful completion of these pro jects will bring an immense amount oi fertile soil under permanent water and spell prosperity for this commu nity. ICach bind owner will have his dist'net problems. "Clubs like the'Crater and Cham ber of Commerce can aid bringing the prospective settler to the owner who may desire to sell either all or u por tion of his lands: by aiding the as sembling and use of a revolving fund to provide finance in channels out of the ordinary, and by assisting in gett'ng industries located here that will provide a profitable market for the products of the ranch." Mr. Thoman referred to a Califor nia district that was aided by one c'tizeu who Individually aided many of the ranchers to purchase dairy cows by purchasing tho cows, retain ing the title, and permitting the rancher to pay out of a portion of tho cream checks. Thus one man with a comparatively small amount of money was of great help to his no'ghbdrs. UNIT PLAN, JACK. Opposition by the people of the Pro vince of Allhwei to their new civil governor has caused ihat official to Co into sudden retirement after only three days in office, according to of llcial reports received in Peking fram the capital of tin1 province. Objection of the Atihwci people to the new governor, one 1.1 Shao-ehoti, was due to his great age and the fact that l.i bus, in the past, been connected with the pro-Japanese Vnfu party. So the students, gentry and merchants of Anhwei arranged lor a reception committee which was to give l.i a w arm welcome on his ; rival at Anking on September '.'0. l.i. however, got advance word of the welcome that was being planned for him and so travelled to Anking. tho provincial capital, on a gunboat. He landed at a point below the town with a strong body guard and. enter ing the city through a little used gate, reached his official residence while the "reception committee" was still waiting at the regular lauding stage anil wondering why he didn't arrive. It is learned here, however, that the reception for Covernor. or ex Covernor, 1.1 was postponed, but not cancelled, and that on September 2:', the aged officials departed for places unknown because the reins of govern ment in Anhwei got too hot for him to handle. Peking is now looking for another civil governor to send to Anking, and this time, it is said, the government j will first consult the people of Anh- wei. iI mm M m mm TrTrrrTTll Sold by Do You Uuy Coal and Get Clinkers?
