The. county budget committee met
Thursday at Jacksonville, and complet
ed its sessions for the year, appropri
ating $1500 for advertising county re
sources and the county as may be
deemed advisable. $500 of this may be
used for the county exhibit at the sta'te
fair is so ordered. A delegation head
ed by Mayor Gates waited upon the
budget committee In reference to the
allowanco. $5500 was allowed for pay-
ment on an armory in this city.
The allowance for the expenses and
salaries of fruit inspectors was - cut
from $1000 to $3000, and the allowance
for the county pathologist's work clip-
'ped from $0600 to $4500, with the pro
i vision that if more money was needed
, it would be granted by tho county
, court.
Tho salary and expenses of the stock
inspector was booster from - $250 to
$j00. The salary of the watermaster
was clipped from $1800 to $1500, and
the treasurer's pay and expenses ele
vated from $2450 to $2S80. The sur
veyor's office expense was reduced
from $1700 to $1200. ,
The cost pf running Jackson county
for the year was fixed at $072,430, and
the receipts estimated at $52,250.

Ted Thye who everybody knows has
been training up to tho last minute
and will be in the pink of condition.
1 his match is expected to bo a
whirlwind and will be wrestled to a
finish, best two out of three falls.
A first class boxing preliminary will
be put on at 8:30 sharp. The wrest
ling holds that are barred will bo dem
onstrated just before tho main event.

Good progress was made In the
civil, action in the federal court be
tween the McComber-Savidge Lumber
company and the Big Pines Lumber
company for the recovery of approxi
mately $29,000 for alleged non-fuul-fillment
of contract.
The principal witness and first one
for the defense was Bert Tbelrolf,
who told the jury that the Big Pines
Lumber company had made every ef
fort, confident "with good sawmill
practice" to vpee. the demands of the

morning, but was only on the stand
for a short time.
Thomas E. Mordhoff, a grader for
the Weed company was called as an
expert witness by the defense, and
testified to regradlng the lumber. In
the Southern Oregon Lumber com
pany yard, 'and said it was well manu
factured.' Other employees of the
lumber company will be called to re
fute the allegation of tin plaintiff
that the tlnrber was lot cut accori
iss to specifications. ,
Tie case will probably go to the
jury tomorrow morning.
