I A movement which promises large mid constantly IturoasliiK benefits to f Southern Oregon, was surriHHf ulty I launched In Ashland Tuesday through tho organization of. tho Consolidated i Chamber of Commerce, of southern t Oregon. This meeting resulted in the j consummation of a plun suggested by Slten Hheldon, president of the Med ford iehnnibei of commerce," at a meeting ; held in Klamath Falls about three weeks ago. The plan is simple and through its very simplicity spells success. The members of tho organization aro tho local chambers of commerco of the cities of Ashland, Grants I'ass, Klam ath Kails and Medford. Members of the local chambers nro per so mem iters of the, consolidated chamber Under tho articles of association adopted today none of the local cham bers surrender to the larger touy any of its prerogatives or duties, it being plainly provided that the consolidated organization shall undertake, only those projects which each and all of tho local chambers agree aro of such ,'enerul interest to the people of these three counties of southern Oregon that they can best be promoted by tho united, joint action of their four prln clpal cities. Jiocauso tho larger body cannot bind tho local organizations in any respect and roceives all its pow ers through tho unanimous consent of tho member cities, it will not undertake matters concerning which tho local communities may not bo in whole accord. Thus tho largest dan ger of a disintegrating influence in tho get-together movement is re moved at the outset. '"Similar efforts toward uniting these four hustling cities of southern Oregon," said Mr. Sheldon, have failed because either tho joint or ganization has tackled too varied lino of projects, some of which did not interest tho . local communities, or it has run off on an effort which par ticularly concerned ono of tho cities and not nil southern Oregon as a whole. This danger has, we feel, been eliminated in this organization. W shall undertnko comparatively few of forts; only those which all four cit ies agree can best bo handled through joint action. A few real Important matters, well handled will assure the success of tho cohsolldnted chamber cement tho cities in promoting their joint interests and teach each of them the value of united action." It was apparent from the discus slons at tho organization meeting yes terday morning and tho luncheon at tho Oregon Hotel at noon, that the advertising of all Southern Oregon as a tourist . nttmutlner district, would probably be tho fiiwt consideration to receive- attention. " It was forcefully pointed out that by far too- many of tho tourists Who came into Southern 1 0 Prince Albert's a new Vi '-;' Talking about rolling your own cigarettes, .we'll tell you right. herethat Prince Albert-tobacco has . The difference in monetary returns to these counties is apparent.
