THE .American Lotion suffers the cliief deprivation, hut tlie country ns a vliolu is a heavy loser 1 lironli the recent death of Col. Frederick W. (Iiiilbrnith, Jr., national commander of the Legion. l'"or the sterling qualities which made Colonel Ciailliniith a successful business man, that earned for him high recognition as a soldier and led to his leadership of the American Legion were being devoted to advancement of national interests, though his primary concern was for the American service men in the world war. He died in the service, for the deplorable accident at Indianapolis occurred while he was journeying on the business of the great organization which had entrusted him with responsibilities most important. Colonel (jalbraith's training precisely equipped him for the du ties which fully engaged Jiim since his elevation to the commander ship last September. In early life he had been a railroad track walker then a sailor, later a business man, ami he had spent a number of years in the National (iuard. Always his contacts had been such as to de velop the love of men and to strengthen his advocacy of the square deal. I If was a powerful factor in establishing the'purposes of the legion ami in upholding Americanism. All his activities were under taken in a spirit of patriotism that was-an inspiration to observers. . Members of the American Legion will especially feel the loss of their commander at a time when he was engaged in promoting legisla tive and other measures to guard their welfare. The cause of the dis abled soldier was particularly near Ins heart and he was tireless in working out plans of relief and in seeking government support for the nation s heroes, the movement lor the consolidation of the various agencies of soldier relief at "Washington was largely stimulated through his efforts. The work which he was furthering will go on, of course, but it is n sad loss which his untimely death inflicts upon his family, liis com- iiules and his eountrv. THE day's at hand when Carp and Jack will battle in their pride; and oh, the large and gorgeous stuck of money they'll divide, when each has slugged the other's dome for six or seven rounds and jUilton sold his greatest pome for some thing like ten pounds. I'm glatl that in these later days true genius gets its due, and (irertt Men do not go their ways iu rags of dingy hue. I'oor liobbie Jiurns was always broke, which made his soulrepine, and Edgar l'oe was forced to soak his hat when he would dine. The list :s long of gifted men who always lacked the price, who did tall things with harp or pen, and still were handed ice. E'en Homes bogged from town to town, and stole the housedog's bone, though later, in his high renown, each claim ed him for its own. Old (irnbb street echoed to the wails of many a gifted gink,' and lioswell's book is full of tales of genius on the blink. Hut now our great men get their due when they have made a hit, and when the coining scrap is through a fortune will be split. It was hard luck that Burns and l'oe and Homer and' that crew were horn so many years ago, ere greatness got its due. If you saw "Jo Please One Woman," the great I.ois Weber pic ture which caused so great a sensation some weeks ago, you will want to see "What's Worth While?" for it is as pretentious as its predecessor. There is always- - something new, novel and attractive about a Lois Weber production and these elements are not lacking In"" "What's Worth While?", the story ofi whioh will thrill as well as causo you to think.
