Union officials said today they had received information that the land and Immigration laws In Japan were more restrictive than those in America and that American laborers seeking em ployment In the Orient wero compelled by law to give up trade secrets. "There is so much agltatidn about the Japanese question In this country", said one labor official, "that we feel that It Is a national problem and want to ascertain the facts. Watson of Gold Kill, Is to speak on Friday evening, March 4, at Clyde hall. Phoenix, under (he an pices of the Phoenix Brotherhood. At that time the judge will give interest ing reminiscences of "Early Days in Oregon," his address being especially for the men of Phoenix and vicinity, whether members of the Brotherhood or not. All men of the community are invited and urged to attend. At' 7:30 an Informal supper will be served for the men present, followed during the evening by the address of Judge Watson and a brief business meeting of tho brotherhood, and music. These local boards will have general charge and Jurisdiction In all Y. M. C. A. activities conducted In their respective communities. Medford's board of directors has been named as follows: W. H.'Gore, Cleo. H. Undley, R. W. Stearns, H. A. Canaday, O. R. Campbell, IJ. W; Paul and S. 8. Smith. The newly-appointed board will meet Thursday .noon for lunch at the Hotel Holland. The story centers around Martin Flint, played by the star, and his son Luther, deep-sea divers, living In ; a small New England village. Martin's rescne of the crew of a navy subniar ine by means of a record 'dive brings him to the attention of an unscrupu lous promoter, James Arnold, who ap proaches the diver with a proposition to salvage the treasure in an old wreck. Martin denounces the enterprise foodbardy, but Luther, lured on liy Edna Gordon, an underworld chnrac tcr who accompanies Arnold, ngrecs to make the dive. As a reward, Edna marries Liither, despite Martin's oh jections. Luther collapses In his attempt to reach the treasure. Edna deserts him. Martin traces the girl to Boston, bun dies her onto the steamer, and starts back with. her. Arnold secretly follows on the same bout. The steamor Is wrecked and Arnold and Edna are drowned togothet;, . Martin escapes. Luther insists upon diving for his wife's body,-' and, doing so, discovers evidence of her perfidy.
