Sidd everywhere. Adv HI'XDRKDS of people in Medford haven't contributed to t he child feetlintr fund, who should do so. They have plenty to eat themselves. Ten dollars to them would mean less than ten cents to many people who have contributed, lint in a enmpnig-u of this kind, it. is so easy to let the generous and public spirited few carry the bur den. They have done it before. Kvuryone knows they will do it again. For our part, we wouldn't want a penny sent across the water, for Hie relief of these defenseless children which was not given gladly. To inject into this campaign any coercion or strong arm tactics, would rob the movement of its greatest strength and inspiration. Hut there are many people, who haven't contributed simply be cause they haven't been aroused, because their imaginations have not been able to picture the conditions, which render American assis tance so imperative. If a single citizen of Medford could be trans ported for 24 hours into 'Warsaw, Poland, or any other city in the de vastated regions, and return here with what he hail seen and heard, the $0000 quota could be reached in a few hours. For there are few indeed, with plenty of food themselves, who would not give every cent they could afford, if they knew that the life of a child depended upon it. To these one can only reiterate what has been said before, that three and one-half million children are literally starving, and that Jackson County's quota represents a minimum which must be secured if these lives are to be saved. Men like Herbert Hoover and Franklin K. Lane do not go into movements of this kind, without an actual knowledge of the conditions. They would not devote their entire time to a project of this description, if there was any doubt that the crisis existed, and that every penny do nated would be spent, for the purposes defined. As a matter of fact, not one cent contributed goes overhead. Every penny is spent for food, clothing and essential shelter. If anyone who reads this has not yet contributed, we can only say do it now. There is to be no house to house canvas, no personal solicitation. The cam paign closes the end of the week. Send something, whatever you can afford, to committee headquarters at the Chamber of Commerce. Jackson County has never failed in a campaign of this sort before. It must not fail now. fy welt Maton CREDIT. THIS year will bring unsettled times, because of readjusting; the merchant, princes will need their dimes, and they'll be slow at trusting. They'll not give credit left and right as lately they've been doing, and frowns will greet the slow-pay wight who'd buy a plug of chewing. And many men this year, I guess, will need a slice of credit, for readjustment brings distress the banking sharps have said it. Now he who's kept his stand-off bright will know the easy sledding, and merchant princes will de light to sell him "books or bedding. However stringent money is, the lumps for him are burning; to see his good old honest phiz, the merchants all tiro yearning. And if he asks to buy on time a grindstone or a hummer, the dealers on his person climb, with glad, exultant clamor. There'll never be a time so tight that men of reputation for having always acted right, can't get accommo dation. A reputation as good pay is better far than rubies, and men who do not think that way must travel with the boobies. The melancholy days are here, suspended "tick" will daunt them; and bills they should have paid last year will rise like ghosts and haunt them.
