Kelly In charge of operations nt the Trlgonia property was the principal speaker. Mayor C. E. Gates of this city sang the Becond verso of the uarody on the Itattle Hymn of the Republic, furnish ing tho second feature. Judge Kelly explained the oil situa tion in tho Rogue River valley, and elterated his previous declaration that the most hopeful thing was the fact that geologists and oil experts had declared there was no oil here. "You can bet that when a geologist says there Is no oil prospects, that thore Is" said the judge. "Thoy become so con servative that they doubt if there is oil In a gasoline tank of a Ford." He also explained the workings of tho oil wells in Texas, and ropeated that If the Trlgonia diggings wore In Texas thoro would bo plenty of excite ment. "Oil rainbows show up on tho water we aro haling out of the Trlgonia," said the speaker, "and that Is it pretty good sign we are in the neighborhood of oil sands. 1 don't want to arouse you icppio to. false hopos, hut the showing-is worth taking a chnnco on." Co incident with this comes the infor mation that money has been offered in New York from interior banks on demand, at a rate lower than tho reg ular market rate of six per cent. What does this mean? It means that in all probability Jackson County will bo able to sell her low interest bearing bonds, and that great activity will prevail here in the spring on account of road work and other improvements. A. Hildreth of Butte Falls, who are spending the winter at Cottage Grove, will celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on January 24th. They were married at Little Valley, New York, January 24, 18C1. The following April the Civil War broke cut. In August, 1862, Mr. Hil dreth enlisted in Company B. 154th regiment New York infantry. Dis charged at Alexandria, Va., Jan. 1, 1863 for disability, and re-enlisted and mustered into the service the same day in Company I, 18th regi ment Pennsylvania cavalry, and serv ed until tho close of the war, receiving final discharge May 10, 1865, came to Oregon in 1890 and settled In Ash land. In 1907 moved to Butte Falls and helped to start that enterprising town. They will return to Butto Falls in the spring.
