Biichtel, present chair man of tho Public Service Commis sion of the state of Oregon, is a can didate for re-election to a second term. It has' been my pleasure to lie brought in close toneh with the work of the Public Service Commission dur ing the lust sevcrnl years, and espec ially with Mr.Huchtel as chairman. can- vouch for his honesty, ability and integrity. He has served the pcopio loyally and most energetically. A failure to return him to office would, in my judgment, be a great injustice.- No, one"' makes such good corn flakes as TOA SUES Boys who have- xriea mem all know that ,- I -soys v x -s During the war the government took control of tlio public utilities. The local telephone company, without no tice to the slate commission, but witli the consent of the government offic ials, which was procured through a mis-statement, of facts, raised the ! telephone rates, nnd even went so far as to discontinue the general ser vice to Jacksonville, making a toll line thereto, including tho county of fices. A hearing was held in Med- ford in which seven members of the local bar e-nve their time gratuitously to the people of this county in con testing against n maintenance of whet thev believed to be nil exorbitant and unjust rate. The Public Service Com mission, with Mr. lSuchtol as Chair man, made a finding and order under which the telephone company was compelled to return the excess charges collected of the patrons of the company and this money was actually paid back. Upon the record of this case, the citizens of Southern Oregon should support Mr. Huchtel. When 1 say sup port, I desire to call attention to the fact thai votes are what count. Kach one should speak to his friends and neighbors, and Mr. Huchtel should re ceive a vote in .lackson county that will indicate, stronger than words, an appreciation of the efforts of a faithful officer, and work well per formed. I would rcnucst. Mr. Kditor, in he half of good, government, that von give this letter publicity. Sincerely Yours, C. M. THOMAS.
